Wireless adapter I have an hp paviliondv6000 notebook w/ windows vista and I was able to access the internet one day and the next it quit working. It was suggested that I replace the wireless LAN card (Broadcom Mini PCI 802.11 b/g HS embedded wireless LAN) which I did and I still get an error message "wireless device is missing" when I attempt to diagnose/repair or " Cable not plugged into network adapter" when i checked the Local area connection. Could it be a bad network card? I also have an hp pavilion dv6000 notebook w/windows vista and I was able to access the internet one day and the next day it quit working. I have not replaced the wireless LAN card (Broadcom Mini PCI802.11 b/g HS embedded wireless LAN), but I reinstalled my Linksys router just to make sure it was not the problem. It looks like my card is shot as there is no blue light when I turn the wireless on, only orange.

Check the ettings on the router have not been altered. the chance of 2 wireless cards failing in the same time, on different pcs is very small, more likely the settings that allow connection in the router, the item common to both, have been changed, reinstalling the router has no effect on user settings,
WEP, encryption, MAC controls are all possible suspects, if there has been any change
lock down the router,
many wireless networks are unsecured at the router so that any person driving past can access your router and alter it, default security settings should be changed the day you turn it on

Remote internet access

RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER! This just happened to me and i looked up and tried EVERYTHING! Since my wifi button had only stopped working 2 days ago, I restored my computer to 4 days prior because I was told that sometimes without you even knowing you allow stuff to get on your computer whenever you get online which could cause your computer to turn functions off automatically. My wifi button actually stopped working after I went into a mcdonalds with my computer an used their wifi so I think me allowing their wifi onto my computer did something to it because when I took it home the button was just red altogether and it was SOOO frustrating. But as soom as I restored it, my computer came back on and a little window popped up saying "Your wifi is currently off, toggle your wifi key to turn it on/off". I was so happy! The simpliest thing that no one would ever think of.
