Hi this situation is driving me mad I hope you will help me. 18 months ago I bought a Sony KDS-R50XBR1. A couple of weeks ago it started to show reddish /pink colors when I turned it on. If I clicked on/off the tv was used to work fine.
Now every time I turn the tv on it goes off by itself. On average after I turn tv on for 20/30 times it starts working.(sometimes with the reddish color). In stand-by the tv blinks red times. Do you have any suggestions?
(I know that if it's an optical block the part will be replaced for free by Sony because of the class action) Thanks a lot George Serraceno firstname.lastname@example.org 304-543-4063

The 5 blinks is indicating the lamp ballast needs replacement your model uses the Sony lamp Ballast 147401211 for sony models
KDF42E2000, KDS-50A2000, KDS-50A2010, KDS-55A200, KDS-60A2000, KDS-60A2010,
& KDS-60XBR2 amd LDS-R60XBR2 Which is available at the bottom of the page at the following link. The ballast comes with installation instructions, http://www.tvrepairworld.com/sony_circuit_boards/sony_dlp_circuit_boards
Outside of the lamp failing, the main exhaust fan on the Left side facing the back of the set is common to fail, the set shuts down. But when this happen it always causes the red led on the front of the set to blink a code. If the green led continues to blink, I would inspect the lamp, if appears to be ok, reinstall it making sure that the inner door latch for the lamp is secure and tight.
When looking at the lamp, pay attention to the the bottom of the lamp stem where the bubble is. If you see a discolored, bulged out area on the bubble, the lamp is bad. I have seen this happen even on new lamps from Sony.
I hope this helps,
Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.
I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working. The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode. Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it. Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced. If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp. The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual. I hope this helps you.
I have a Sony KDS-50A2000 50 in. HDTV Television. I just replace the lamp because I got the message that appeared on the TV. Lamp needs to be repaced. I replace with a Sony lamp and now TV cut off after 2 to 3 hours off watching the TV. Any Idea what is going on with this TV
