I pushed on my parking brake and something snapped, resulting in my brake pedal pressed to the firewall, when i pulled the release latch it would not come back up,i pulled the pedal up manually but now i have no parking brake at all,the pedal is limp. upon a quick inspection it doesn't appear that the brake cable has snapped, however i noted the cable that runs allong the frame,to the rear tires is now slack. i have a 1995 Ford F150 XL pickup truck (regular cab) if you could tell me how to troubleshoot and fix this problem i would greatly appreciate it Thank You.

If you know someone with a lift, get it up in the air and take a good look. it should be immediately obvious which end or which cable has failed. i think you will find there are two cables in the rear which meet one coming from the front at a central threaded rod adjuster. common for them to become rusted and break at pivot points, swivels, backing plates. it is not unknown for an independent muffler shop to put your vehicle up on a lift and let you take a quick look for 10 bucks or so.

Emergency brake stuck to the floor

if your mechanical minded you can release it with a flat blade screw driver but it will be tight ,you need to release the tention by pushing hard on the pedal ( or use 2 people) and you will see how the ratchet locks the pedal pry up on it while you slowly lift the pedal up .

With car running The shift leaver willnot come out of park

When pressing the brake pedal, you should hear a click at the shifter, as the shift-lock mechanism is releasing the lock on the shifter. If the sound isn't heard, there may be a defective shift lock solenoid (which may require replacing entire shifter assembly, depending upon model). Otherwise you may need to remove access cover at top of shifter to insert a screwdriver to push down on the bypass latch so you can shift out of park. You will also need to push down on latch to go back to park.

How do you take the parking brake pedal assembly off a 1999 Silverado Chevy? Are there three or two bolts? What has happened is the cable broke or fell off the parking brake assembly. It will not come back...

1. Remove the electrical junction box that is monuted on the lower firewall to the right of the pedal assembly.

2. There is a small cable that runs from the parking brake release lever to the pedal assembly. Use the release lever to remove the tension on the cable, then inclip the cable from the top part of the pedal assembly.
3. Remove the three 1/2" nuts holding the pedal assembly in place. You will have removed one already to take out the electrical juntion box. THe other two are on the top of the pedal assembly, holding it to the side of the vehicle.

4. Under the vehicle, disconnect the front of the parking brake cable from the rear section of the cable. You will have to pul this cable up through the floorboards. Remove the clamp that holds it to the frame and pass it through so it is ready to go up thru the floorboard.

5. Remove the pedal assembly from the interior wall of the vehicle. Pull the rubber grommet and cable up thru the floorboard.
