Question about Weather King 10AJA2501AH Air Conditioner
A friend had a goodman 2 t 13 seer unit installed last summer he states it never cooled very well. i put my guages on it, highh side was 125 and low was18, found capilary tubes frozen after about 30 seconds. replaced filter dryer and installed a service port just before the evaporator coil, high side pressure was the same so was the low side, charge was 102 oz, replaced evap. coil with an adp, with a txv. now the high side is 155 and low is 55, evap coil dosent freeze but only about 1/3 feels cold and does make condensate, temp at the difusers is 72 and indoor temp is 82. what i am thinking the compressor is damaged due to the practices of installation, (also when i cut the low side line at the evap coil, oil came out so i blew the line out with nitrogen.)
The problem was in the condensing coil, plastic pieces from the valves in the scrool compressor had lodged in about 1/3 of the coil tubes causing the freon to change state in those tubes then mixing with the liquid, at that point there was no sense cleaning out the condensing coil and replacing the compressor so i installed a new condensing unit now all is well and working fine, thanks for the feedback.

It looks like you did make some improvements when you replaced the coil and metering devise. The fact that this system never ran right "out of the box" is suspicious. My first instinct is that the system is either unmatched in size or the whole system is sized incorrectly. Do your Heat gain/Loss calcs and see if it matches close to what is in there, both for the coil and condenser. Secondly double check that the evap you installed is matched the same as the condenser. In some situations the ID coil can be over sized by a 1/2 ton. But that is the only exception and it does not apply to all cases.
If the system is sized and matched correctly, then I would consider the compressor to be the problem.
