Fiest put in a milti part form and try it if the copies are good you have a ribbon problem.
Try it without the correction tape. Look at the ribbon to see if it has folds in it or the letters are overstriking on the ribbon

The L/O should be dry non tacky.

Ibm wheelwriter 10 only typing half the letter

If it is only one letter, it could be broken in half. Pull the printwheel out and look at it. If it is all charachters, push down firmly on the platen on the side where the print is worse. It should click back down into place. Sometimes the platen unlatches.

The lift-off tape is to low

1. Use the SPACEBAR or BACKSPACE to move the carrier to the center of the typewriter, then turn off the typewriter and unplug the unit from the AC outlet.
2. Open the Top Cover and remove the cassette ribbon, if installed.
3. Pull off both spools by holding the correction tape taut between the spools; bring the correction tape to a position parallel with the platen and lift up and out.

4. Pass the new tape through left guide, behind the ribbon guide and out through the right guide. The rough (sticky) side of the tape should face the platen.

5. Attach the feeder spool to the pin on the left.

6. Attach the take up spool to the pin on the right. Turn the take up spool counter-clockwise until a small amount of white tape has wound around it.

7. Replace the cassette ribbon and close the top cover, plug in the AC cord to the AC outlet, and turn on the typewriter.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

If it is only typing the top half of the letters the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, push down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

Typewriter keys only print half a letter

In general, there are two possible causes for this symptom. 1. The ribbon is not fully in front of the typeface at impact. 2. The typeface is not in the proper position at impact. Depending on the model of typewriter there can be different causes for these two conditions, for instance, on a manual typewriter, that has a manual shift key, it is possible that the segment which travels up and down when depressing the shift, is not in the proper position, thus , when the typeface contacts the paper, the curvature of the typeface does not match the curvature of the platen. This can cause the top or the bottom of letters not to print. Likewise on an IBM Wheelwriter, it is possible for the platen itself to be loose which can cause just the top of letters to print. Observe the ribbon lift position and installation. Check the hammer, printwheel, platen,

Wheelwriter 1500 is only printing the top half of the letters.

I have solved the problem. It turned out that the platen was not completely secured on the left end. Once I snapped it securely in place, the print was fine again. (I had to remove that platen three times to figure that out!) Sorry for the bother, but I'm glad to know where I can seek help now. Thanks.

Only typing half letters and numbers

On the WheelWriter series, sometimes the platen may pop out of position, causing only half the letters to print. If this is the case, easially solved... Using the left and right platen knobs, firmly push down to lock it back in place. Hope this helps....MediaMan
