Question about Motorola Mobility ic902 Cellular Phone

1 Answer

Ic 902 trys to power up but fails.

I have had 5 of these since early May. My dealer who has carried Nextel since 1995 has not seen the problem. I like the phone or would be long gone. I will shut the phone done for a meeting and go to re-power and the phone hangs at the Motorola M logo. The M will stay on for a time maybe 90 seconds or a little more and then blank out for 10 to 15 seconds and then return. But that is all that happens. I cannot shut the phone down except by pulling the battery. The first time i went to the trouble of returning the phone to Customer Rention, and wait for them to re-issue. This is a big hassle and i do not want to tie up $200.00 on my credit card for 60days.
I got the insurrance with second phone (first one only lasted 10 days. So the second time i went through dealer and got an imediate although refurbished replacement. I am on the third phone since the first of June.
We thought a bad lot from Motorola but now that it is showing up in the dealer's inventory we are not sure. I like the phone and what it does for me- PDA type scheduling and connectivity without the expense. But i am weary of the hassel. the failures have all ocurred near or at work. Church janitor, we have a wireless hub at work but lots of other cell phones and no problems. Help!!

I just replaced my ic902 for the second time for a similar issue. After
a normal shutdown to charge the battery, upon power-up it cycles
through the Motorola logo, the Sprint animation and then cycles back to
power-up. Pulling the battery is the only way it shut down. The Sprint
Service Center had not seen the issue before, but just pulled a new one
    from stock and replaced it.

You can fix it with a master reset but you need tech support to let you in the back door. it can be entered during the power up screen. i have the same phone and it fixed my phone twice without having to replace it,

2005 durango interior light will not shut off

Check with your local Dodge dealer. They had a recall early on for the cluster in the dash. The interior lights power comes through there. They do fail and it may be a warranty deal, If it qualifies. I have seen this happen and the cluster ( speedometer) took care of the problem.

The modem is probably still looking for the MAC address of your laptop at this point.
You need to unplug the modem AND the 902.
Power up the modem first and give it a minute to let the lights settle then power up the 902
Once the 902 is powered up and it's lights have settled down, start powering up devices that connect to the 902.
You may be surprised that this is all it takes!

What is the best IC replacement for original IC part# STK393-110?

Sayo makes the best IC's, don't just settle for the cheap ones. I have see this ic for as low as $5.00 on the internet.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Panasonic PT53WX42 dead with 5 blnks of power LED

Your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

This is a common failure for this particular television. The power light might be blinking indicate a short in the power supply

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110, and they are located on the signal board (on the left as you look into the back of the set).

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.
There are also two resistors on the front of the board located in the middle that are fusible link resistors, these should be checked for opens and replaced if they are found so.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

Your symptoms sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

This is a common failure for this particular television. You should have a red blinking power light on the front of your set that will blink 5 times and this is your solution to your problem.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110, and they are located on the signal board (on the left as you look into the back of the set).

What happens in the Panasonic set is that the convergence IC’s will short and cause the power supply to shut down from the overload of current.

I would suggest that you contact a service center in your area for a complete diagnosis and repair, as this type of repair can get a little tricky. But if you want to repair the set yourself, just remember to be careful. The capacitors and CRT’s can hold a charge and may shock you.
