Question about Husqvarna Viking 1

Get started on a Viking 8 Husqvarna sewing machine

My grandmother had this sewing machine before I did. It got passed down to me in her will and I was wanting to use it, but I can't find any manuals to tell me how to get it to work the other portion of the motor that runs the needle and not the bobbin spinner at the rear of the machine.

It should automaticaly switch over when removing bobbin from spinner, otherwise needs repair.

Where can I find parts for a Viking 990S?

Most Viking dealers or repair shops should be able to get parts for you. Some that I know of that are available online are: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/viking-990-sewing-machine-parts.aspx
Ron Anderson at A1 sewing is someone I've known for about 20 years on the net... he's always been helpful to DIYers on the usenet group "alt.sewing", and has a good reputation as a source of parts: ron@a1sewingmachine.com -- I'd try him if you don't have a good local repair shop.
IIRC, the 990 is electronic, and you may not be able to find boards for it anymore.
And FWIW, I mostly sew on a Juki F-600; like the old Vikings, it just works.

Husqvarna viking sewing machine bobbin

Could the part number be 4011770? I've found the Viking 7 bobbins here: http://www.mysewingmachineparts.com/top-quality-metal-sewing-machine-bobbins-4011770-husqvarna-viking/ . Another site with them is http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-viking-4011770.aspx . This bobbin is compatible with the Husqvarna Viking 7, 49, 51, 52, 21 & 21E . It probably will work for other machines. Sears also has them listed as 11770: http://www.sears.com/generic-viking-sewing-machine-bobbins-sewing-machine/p-SPM6124767105?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1 .

I also found these bobbins: http://www.amazon.com/Viking-Metal-Bobbins-5-pkg/dp/B000YZ5QSC . The part number appears to be 1702.

I hope this helps.

I have received an old Husqvarna Viking from my grandmother which, she assures me is in working order, but she is unable to remember how to thread the machine and there are no instructions. The only...

This is going to be pretty veige, Im sorry but I have seen a lot of these go unanswered so hopefully this is at least helpful. All sewing machines have to do the same basic things, First the thread will go through a directional hole just getting it in the right spot, then it goes through the tension discs, then the take up spring, then the take up arm, then down through to the needle. I realize this this is veige, but I sure hope it helps.

Can't get machine to pull up bobbin thread

This is a hook/needle timing issue. It will need to be adjusted by an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer or they can send to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Technical Service Dept in Tennessee for them to do the repair. A list of authorized dealers is available at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

Good luck.

I filled the Bobbin, now how do I get it to go back to sewing

Something didn't click back in place when you removed the bobbin from the winding mechanism. Try winding another bobbin. Make sure it stops, then remove it. If the problem continues, take it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. They should still be able to take a look at it. Check Husqvarna Viking website for dealer closest too you.

Repair and opertors manuals?

The cheapest manual I have found for the model 6440 is at http://gotoes.org/sales/VikingSewingMachineManuals/ViewInfo.pl?Viking=1&Sewing_Machine_Model=6440
It is a downloadable version also sent by email.
There is a free threading diagram including bobbin info at www.sewusa.com. Repair manuals are available on ebay and run ten dollars or more.

Help problems with Bobbin and tread

I found that if the bobbin is not threaded correctly or if the upper thread is not adjusted properly, it will bunch on the bottom. Also, if the stabilizer is not firm enough for the material it will bunch.
