Question about Printers & Copiers

6 Answers

I have a Canon MultiPASS MP 390. I just replaced both both ink cartrides with official Canon Inl (BCI-24) and pressed both replace buttons. It is now reading - Waste Ink Tank near full. Please advise what I must do.

All the User's Guide says is "Contact the Canon ustomer areenter as soon as possible.

  • waddies Jun 28, 2008

All the User's Manual says is " Contact the Canon Customer Care Center as soon as possible.

There was no official Customer Service telephone number or web site. I was Googled to the FixYa pay site.

Is this the only way to get a solution to my problem?

  • waddies Jun 29, 2008

This solution worked - the warning light and "waste ink tank near full" disappeared. Do you think this a permanent solution, or is there actually extra ink to be emptied eventually?

  • waddies Jun 29, 2008

Yes, but I Haven't found the "spunch" yet.

This is not an easy job to perform but you have little choice unless you want to buy a new printer.
Glued to the top of the waste tank is a piece of foam. It is exactly the same type used to filter the air in a portable air conditioner.
US cost about $2.00. You need t replace this or ink will end up spilling into the printer. Place a rag around the tank to catch overflow. You can use a paper towel or rag to slowly push it into the tank & absorb the ink. Please go slow, the ink is thicker than fresh ink & it will not come out easily. If you can get a syringe & use it to pull ink out you'll save a ton of time. Than you can use a rag to wipe out the rest of the ink. Use alcohol to wipe the top inside of tank.
Than cut a piece of foam & super clue one side to the tank. Keep it flush with the top of the tank

Have you tried a reset?
To do the reset follow these steps:

1)Printer on, press Additional Functions, Scan, Copy, Scan
Now you should be in service mode from there for waste ink tank reset

2)Select Test mode which is like the last avalabe selection
3)Select #8 Printer Test, it will do something here like cleaning or something then it will come up with some other option this is where it gets a bit confusing cause now all it says is like 8-2 or 8-3 push the + or - button until it says 8-3 then hit the select button

The menu will now say EEPRON Clear
Select Ink count which is option (0) and press set

Then press Stop/Reset Followed by the power button and then wait for it to restart.

Let me know if the helps.

Refer to your owner's manual for the waste tank. Some can be emptied, where as others have to be replaced.

this is the sequence that worked, and do not worry about the pad, it is a sponge that you can take it out gently yourself, wash it and put it back, no soap or squiz it. do not need to open the printer to do it, can take it out from where you replace the ink tanks.

1)Printer on, press Additional Functions, Scan, Copy, Scan
Now you should be in service mode from there for waste ink tank reset it is simalar to what has already been posted

The same 4 bulk inks

The bad news: Canon does not make any new printers that use those ink tanks. Their line of new consumer printers is the PIXMA series. None of these printers uses the BCI-3 series of ink tanks. I am sorry for the bad news,.. The good news: I have personally been successful in finding used, operational printers for $1 to $5 from local thrift stores and for a little more at local "Recycled, Used, Computer" type of stores. You may even try craigslist and put out a wanted ad for the models below,... anyway I hope this helps you out.
Here is a list of models that use all of the BCI-3e series of Black and Color tanks
Color Printers: i550, s400, s450, s500, s520, s530d s600, s630, s630 Network, s750, all BJC-3000 Series
Multifunction Printers: MultiPass F30, MultiPass F50, MultiPass F60,MultiPass F80
Other Color Printers (partially compatable) i560 & i860 (only uses the BCI-3 black tanks,..but BCI-6 for colors)

Hi, I just got a Cannon369 MP360 the black ink is empty, but there is color ink in it. It will not print anything. Do I have to replace the Black to get color in to work??? Since it's 2nd hand I don't want...

With this type of printer you need to have a full black cartridge to print black and white. The new Canon BCI-24 black cartridge from Staples is only $8.29. These cartridges are even cheaper from refillers. I recommend Cartridge World or Office Depot for printer cartridge refills.

Cartridge recommendations

You can purchase Canon cartridges directly from Canon here. The BC-10 is a cartridge that prints with black ink only. The BCI-10 is the replacement ink tank for this cartridge (a new cartridge comes complete with an ink tank). The BC-11e is a cartridge that prints both black and color, and has two ink tanks, the BCI-11 black and BCI-11 color. A new BC-11e cartridge comes complete with two new ink tanks.
