Remove all the cartridges clean the circuits of all the cartridges, and also the circuit of the printer where the cartridge is installed with a tissue paper. and insert the cartridges one by one (i mean to say just insert one then off the printer then turn on and insert another then turn off, then again turn on and insert the remaining in same way one at a time)

Open your printer properties (Panel->printer), maintenance tab and here are utilities for maintenance task (run cleaning task, and then test your buses)

Printer will acknowledge only 3 of 4 new ink cartridges - keeps saying change LC51M

doesn't LC51M refer to Magenta(red) not Cyan(blue). on my J435W the colors goes as follows: BK Y C M LC71 Series cartridges. Maybe you have them switched around? just a thought.

Cyan doesn't print

Have you had a paper jam recently? My only thought might be that a small piece of paper is stuck where the cyan cartridge prints.
Maybe get an air duster spray can, remove all inks and spray inside.

Brother MFC-5460CN won't scan because cyan ink empty

Brother is telling us that sometimes the cartridge can be installed too fast causing it not to read. Install it slowly to see if that helps. Also, power down, remove all the inks and power up. Add the inks one at a time when it asks.

Red Menace

Try unplugging the printer for about ten to fifteen seconds; then replug.

This may clear the printer's memory about the low magenta. I had a similar thing with yellow, and when I replugged it stopped complaining about the yellow and told me that my cyan was out, and magenta low. I replaced the cyan, and voila! I can print!

Ink cartridges....

Which cart arent recognized? The yellow one or the cyan(blue) one or both?

Anyway:
Unplug machine from power. Wait three minutes. In this time take all carts out and close cover. reconnect machine to power. Machine demands carts. Open cover. Reinsert carts. Make sure that the support clip of the cart.holder is secured above the cart cover.

If you still have probs with one cart. the led contact on the circuit board is defectiv. You need a new cart holder then, which can be ordered as a spare part from a service partner near your home (see brother homepage).

Mfc-5460cn

Please tell us what machine do you really have:
Is it a mfc 420cn or a mfc 5460cn?

Did you have a paperjam before getting the error?
This might be due to the paperjam.

Ill try to give you some more help but need more info...
