Try purchasing an original adapter. I've had several machine of different make through my shop that the Targus adapter just simply won't run. For example, a Dell Inspiron 1100 and HP dv4000 won't run at all, and a Dell Latitude 1501 and Gateway crv503 will run but won't charge the battery. Targus adapters are junk, if you can, get your money back.

HI there! I am using a targus universal wall power adaptor for laptops, it has an output of 19.5 V and 90 W. I was wondering if I could use this to charge my UK laptop from ADVENT. The charger for this has...

The wattage is to different, the wattage for the adapter is 90watts, and the charge for the advent is only 65w.

You can always try it, but you risk damaging your battery, or motherboard.

Hello,

First of all, disconnect your battery from back of the

laptop, then try and get a friend or a technician that

uses the same type of laptop, and try to swap the

battery just to check whether it works and charges

it properly. Also do the same thing with the

Adapter/Charger and charge it with it.

This is because, there are two diagnostic possibilities

here:

1.) It is either the battery that you bought is not good

and you need to return it quickly before its too late

or;

2.) The charger that you are using is bad, or not

supplying enough current to charge the battery

cells...and this might even damage the battery after

a while, or make the battery not to charge to its full

capacity and as well discharge quickly.

Try this out and let me know how it goes.

Hope this helps you out.

Goodluck and thanks for using fixya.

the problem is the BIOS of the Dell system is looking for an ID signal from the AC adapter so it knows what adapter is connected. If the BIOS cannot ID the power supply, then battery charger is disabled.

You will need to get a Dell AC adapter.

HP ZV 5000 laptop AC adaptor switches to battery power randomly. The AC adaptor has only one year of usage on it and it works fine when the switch to battery power problem (luckily) doesn't occur. Also the...

We have two different HP Pavilion laptops, and they've both done this. For us it hs been the AC cord itself where it plugs in to the computer that has been the problem. Personally I think it is a scam with an imminent design failure built in. The cord bends right after the plug over an over again until the cables inside start to break and or short. At first you can get it to work by angling the cable just so until the charge indicator comes on, but after a while it just gets too far gone.

The scam part for ALL laptops that I have seen is that the cable is not replaceable. You have to replace the whole adapter. Of course the section of cable from the wall to the adapter is replaceable, but the cable from the adapter itself to the computer is hard wired, and that is the only part that breaks!

I have had minor success in repairing or replacing the ends, but the best fix is to get a new one. eBay has some for much cheaper than HP.

POWER CORD

most notebook adapters i've seen have the light stay on as long as it's supplying power to the notebook. so your p/s maybe defective - my guess is that something's tripping it - are you sure the p/s is suitable for your particular notebook (based on voltage/current/power requirements)?
