Windows Vista will Shutdown but will restart in immediately

I am having problems shutting down my laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite. It will shutdown but will restart almost immediately. Nothing I have tried has help. I have even taken the computer back to factory defaults and still the same problem continues to happen.

I have the same problem, after installing vista service pack 1. Before installing this update I had never problems, after installing the update there was only one option to get out: format c and reinstall vista.

You can create a shutdown icon on your desktop that might resolve your issue.

  1. Right-click on the desktop, choose New and then Shortcut.Windows Vista will Shutdown but will restart in im - 4ffc395.jpg
  2. In the shortcut location box, enter
    • Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
  3. When you've clicked 'Next...', you'll be asked to name the shortcut. Probably best to name it 'Shutdown'
  4. After you click 'Finish' you should now have a new icon that you can double-click to shutdown your computer.
Hope this helps! : )

The only solution I have found is to unplug the computer before I 'shutdown'. I know it sounds crazy but as long as the computer is plugged in it will restart. Not sure why it works but it works.

I had the same problem with my toshiba satellite, but it came after installing vista update to service pack 1. Before I installed the update I never had problems, but after installing the sp1 update there was only one solution: format c and re-istall vista.
since that moment I ignore the sp1 update.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Launch start up repair

Im not sure if you are wanting to get to start-up repair or trying to get rid of it
If you want to access it, Boot system and do a hard nshut down. Restart, you will have the option to Launch start up repair or to start windows normally
If you are getting the option screen unwanted, this is primarily due to improper shutdown.
Whenever you shut down always try to use shutdown, restart options in taskbar.
If in the event you are stuck and need to do a hard shutdown try pressing Ctrl/Alt/del simultaneously
to access task manager.
Here you can end processes hung up or do a proper shutdown

Toshiba A135-S4527 will not automatically shut down

If you truly believe the problem happened right after installing the new mouse, then you should start by uninstalling the software for it. Go to Control Panel -> Software -> Uninstall. If this fails, you can use the System Restore utility to rollback the Windows registry to a time before you first installed the new mouse software. Have you tried to unplug the mouse and not use it, atleast on the attempted shutdown process?
