Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

How can I backup files from a SD Card before formatting it ?

Put the card into a card reader, either built-in to your computer or attached via USB. The card will now appear to your computer as another hard drive. You can then use the operating system's drag&drop to copy the card contents to a folder on your hard drive. Or you can use any backup program.

I bought a toshiba, have not used my sony cybershot 1.3 till today, only to find I cannot download my pictures because my driver is not installed.

The easiest alternative method to transfer the pictures onto your computer is to remove the memory card and plug it into a card reader (either built in or a USB card reader if you have one). If not, you can connect your camera to your computer by the USB cable.

Once you plug the camera or the card in, Windows will usually ask you if you want to import the images. You can do that or import them manually by opening up the SD card or camera in my computer and dragging the files to the folder you want to store them in.

Otherwise please post your exact Sony Cybershot model and the version of Windows on your Toshiba and we can try to find you the correct software.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

My cam can not be recognized by my laptop... its the first time this happens... i can not transfer my pics to my laptop

Hi,
Try camera in another USB port of laptop and also check it with another USB cable, if still problem not solved then plug camera in any other computer to make sure that it is problem of camera.
If camera still wont work in other computer then its USB port got defective, please use memory card reader to transfer pictures in computer, take out memory card from camera, put it in memory card reader and plug it in USB port of computer.
Thanks.

An easy way to find out is to try another cable. Better yet, consider NOT using the USB connection at all.
