There are 2 reasons for this-
1: pls check the wther pins at the end of the wire of the mouse are damaged while disconnecting

The right side of my optical mouse dosen't work

Check to see if the battery is good.
Check to see (in the control panel) if the correct mouse is installed in the system--there could be a conflict.
Just to try something--go to the device manager and delete the mouse you find there. Restart the computer and let it find it again.
If you have the mouse software, be sure you install it.
If all of this fails, buy a new mouse.

My same model Argos mouse was auto-detected as a "USB compliant mouse" and it failed to work. Went into device Manager and manually re-installed driver as a "HID compliant mouse" from local drivers and it works!!

Did you install 2 batterys in the bottom of the mouse? If yes then connect the USB end to the computer and press the "CONNECT" button on the part attached to the USB cord. Should blink. Windows should "find" the mouse at this point.

I've noted that certain mousepads do cause problems- it seems to be with the graphics on the pad- reflective/light/dark areas on the pad cause the different movement patterns. I'd guess a pad with a dull non-reflective & uniform color might be best.
