Got struck by lightning via the modem which was destroyed. The port that accepts the ethernet cable stays on as soon as the computer is plugged in. Power comes on but no input to the monitor.

The modem might have been obviously destroyed but so is the rest of the computer. The connection that you are talking about is the NIC and it is showing signs that it was damaged by the surge also. That means all the delicate electronic parts in the computer are toast. Time for a new computer.

HDD making clicking noise/will not boot into windows

do you see anything when you press the on button?
if not, it might be the motherboard, which means the most important part of the computer is broken and it has to be replaced (the motherboard that is, but i warn you, OEM versions of windows might not work anymore) if you see something until windows should start just replace the harddrive

How to check uptime-downtime statuses of some popular websites

The words, Yahoo! Mail is down, Facebook is down, Twitter is down, etc..etc.. are very common and these are very annoying to hear since we are not reported what's going on and what's the problem is. Few websites like, facebook, twitter, etc.. update their statuses on other social networking sites immediately eg. facebook updates it on Twitter or Twitter updates on Facebook but there are many more websites which they don't seem to bother about this. May be I am wrong when I say "they don't seem to bother..", but I can say, since they never update their statuses publicly visible anywhere.
There is a website called "downrightnow.com" where we can check the statuses of few websites including Yahoo!Mail, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and many more though we can't see the complete details about the problem, we can at least know the status/es. Follow this LINK to visit the website, you'll see several websites listed there with several buttons like "Details" or "Report an Issues" on the right hand side of every website name. If a website name section (column) background is highlighted with red (faded orange), it means the website is down as per users' reports. But if the website name section (column) is green, then it indicates that the website is "up". If you have problem opening a website, say eg. click "Yahoo!Mail" or the "Details" button, and check out i.e. the status of the selected website within 24 hours. You can also report your issue by clicking the "Report an Issue" button. Where you will see three options :
1. This service is down..

2. I can reach the service but I am having problem..

3. Never-mind, the service is working fine..

Click anyone of the links to report your issue, and your feedback will be automatically submitted. You can report issue only once in 24 hours per website.
Hope this helps.

Your comment is highly appreciated.

Don't trash that computer! Restore it!

Just because a computer slows down and or starts having errors does not mean it's ready for the trash. I talk to several people a week who have problems out of a computer that is only a year or two old, and rather than getting it repaired they go out and spend another $500 to $600 to replace it.
Many Computer Service companies now offer Computer Restoration Services where the computer operating system is reloaded, clean the dust from the inside of the computer, and load the most up to date drivers. Then the computer runs like when when it was new, or even faster. That service usually runs around $150. That is a savings of over $350.
The service mentioned above does not include replacing bad hardware, I have found that most issues are caused by bad configuration or Operating System corruption not hardware. Computer Restoration service will take care of both of those issues.
These days we all have to save money every where we can. So don't trash that year or two old computer! Restore it!

Printer spooler service not running

Is this an error message or a statement? If you need to start the spooler service, you can either open command window and type:
"net start spooler" without the quotation marks and press ENTER or click START button, right-click on Computer and select Manage. Then on the left, expand "Services and Applications" and click on "Services". Afterward, scroll down till you locate Print Spooler and its Startup Type should be "Automatic" and Status should be "Started" but due to the error, I am guessing the status is "Stopped". If the Startup Type is indeed set to "Automatic" then rebooting the computer should start this service automatically as listed, if you keep getting the same error message then there is something either preventing this service from starting or it is stopping it when you try to use it. Not very common but faulty or corrupt printer drivers could cause that so that would be the first thing to check unless you have other errors or issues on this computer that might indicate a filesystem corruption, bad Windows image or malware infection.
Need more info. I am sorry but this is a good example of "How not to ask for help". Better description of the issue, better the help you will receive.

I purchased a restart/restore disc for my emachine two weeks ago i recieved it some time last week and come to find out that it dosnt work, i took it to best buy geek squad and the put in a disc of their...

Was the Geek Squad's disc being detected? Or did you just take them your disc to see if they could get a computer to recognize it? If not, then you may just need to change some settings at Boot for your computer to start booting from your restore disc. I've never personally dealt with the Geek Squad, but I would not just take their word for something. I've had several people very unhappy with the outcome of letting them service their computers. I've talked to other people who were very happy with the Geek Squad service. Try taking your disc to a local computer shop and ask them if they can put the disc in their computer to see if it is a functioning Restore Disc. MADHATTER COMPUTERS

My computer has been there a month for repair and I want to talk with a supervisor because every time I call to find out the status I get a different answer. I want my computer back. This is REALLY bad...

Thats why Gateway went down the tubes , bad customer service and just really cheeply made computers.

A month is Vastly too long for a repair , I would contact my lawyer.

And it would be a cival lawsuit.

Or you can demand your computer back reguardless of it's condition , and have it looked at by
a trained professional localy , and of course check them over to see if they are established and reputable.

or you can simply pray and excersize grace in this matter.

HI aoi,

There is no clear indication that a hard drive is about to fail, but there may be several warning signs that trouble is on the horizon. Excessive drive noise (such as loud clatters or whirring noises) can be one common warning sign. Other warning signs may include unusual read/write errors to the drive, often leading to the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), in which the computer freezes and the screen turns blue.

If the laptop is under warranty, contact the laptop’s manufacturer for service. Some manufacturers may honor the warranty for a marginal drive if the technician agrees that the system is unusable or a total failure is imminent, but other manufacturers may not agree to replace the drive until it actually fails. If the laptop is not under warranty, contact your nearest full-service PC repair center such as CompUSA or Best Buy. They may be able to arrange a depot repair, though the task may take several weeks and cost you a fee. Always get a price and time estimate in writing before giving permission for a repair job. Remember to back up your data before dropping the laptop off for service
