Acer laptop repair

My laptop died some months ago and I'd like to get it back in action. The last time they told me it could be that I need a new Hard Drive. Do you know if that is the solution and in this case where to go to get it done? I would also need a new battery

Thank you. that was very helpful. Would you mind to advise me again? I am just not very sure which hard drive should I get; I checked the one I have and it is a Toshiba HDD2190, but I would not mind getting another one if this has to be any better (another brand?). I do not really need so much memory as the one i have (40Gb).

You can purchase a new hard drive at for half the price a computer shop will charge. They are very simple to replace and you can do it on your own. There is a rectangular cover on the side of your machine, it's held by one screw on the bottom, this is the hard drive caddy. Remove the screw and the caddy and drive will slide out. With Dell, there is a connector on the end of the hard drive, be sure to put it on the new drive. From here, you will just need to reinstall the operating system.
You're best bet for a good buy on a battery is Ebay. That's where I get my batteries from.

Toshiba sataellite c855d-s5320 says no bootable device upon start up

I bought the same computer from Walmart for my daughter for Christmas. I have had to send it in three times to have the hard drive fixed as it showed the same error that you were getting. I was very mad as the first time I had to pay $25 to have them ship me the box to send it in to them. I also tried at first to return it back to Walmart but was told it was to late and I would have to go through Toshiba. I just received it back again today. They have had to replace the hard drive three times. This is ridiculous as I have had several other computers and laptops and have never had to have a hard drive replaced before. I told them I was not paying the last two times to send it in for repair as it should never of had to go to them the first time. The girl did send me the box free the last two times but honestly I think they should just give me a whole new computer as I think these ones are lemons! I cannot believe a brand new computer would need to have a hard drive replaced 3 times in 5 months! The girl advised me if it had to go back again they would probably finally do something. I sure hope your is working better then mine.

I bought this computer a couple of months ago and have used it about 3 times. When I turned it on, there was no power and it was fully charged before I went offline the last time. Now my battery icon...

> bought this computer a couple of months ago

Then, it should be FULLY covered under WARRANTY, either from the store from where you bought it, or from ACER.

> new battery from COSTCO

It's probably 100% fine; it's your laptop that is the problem.

Exercise the WARRANTY to get the laptop repaired/replaced, at NO COST to you.

I recently ordered a battery for my acer aspire 5517 lapptop because my laptop had suddently stopped working and everyone said that it was the battery, I ordered the battery and that was was not the probem...

If the computer was purchased from a shop or as a new item last christmas then i would almost
deff say that you have at least a 1yr warranty on it hopefully your children has still got some kind of
proof of purchase so that they can go back to where they bought it from

As for the battery its worth contacting the seller he may well take it back as it hasnt fixed the problem that you had

good luck

Acer Aspire 150 - bought new 18 months ago and have been told that the motherboard has gone. Is this reasonable and has anyone else had a similar probelm and if so what did you do about it?

Is this reasonable? - no, but possible, yes. I have seen plenty of electronics go bad just a week or two past the warranty, including computers. Unfortunately, about all you can do about it is 1) get a new motherboard installed, or 2) get a new computer and this time buy the extended warranty. By the way, whoever installs your motherboard should be able to easily get your documents/files from the hard drive. You will need to reinstall Windows, and a new motherboard/processor will require a new installation. Just putting the hard drive back in will produce the "blue screen of death" just so you know ahead of time.
