GE XL1800 1100 Watts Microwave Oven

No turntable, no heat. Light, vent fan and keypad...

posted by jcanepa on Jun 28, 2008

I have a GE XL 1800 (model number JMV1860SF001 manufactured July 2002).

When I set the timer and start the microwave, the light comes on inside and the timer counts down but the turntable does not rotate and there is no heat. The keypad, counter light, vent fan and everything else is fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the info! To avoid taking apart more than I need to, what is the proper way to remove the display panel? Do I need to take the whole cover off or is there a simpler way?

Thanks for you assistance!

I removed all three door latch switches and tested them to find they are all working. Any ideas what to look at next?

Thanks for your help,
John

That would be a problem with your primary interlock switch or its mount.

NOTE: There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

The interlocks are highlighted in the diagram below.

They all measured as showing good continuity? That's a surprise!

I would suspect then that the primary interlock (which has black wires attached) is not getting activated properly by the door latch heads when the door is closed.

With the control panel off, repeatedly open & close the door and observe the action of the door latch heads and the door switches to see if that one is not getting activated.

Otherwise there would have to be a bad connection on one or more of the wires or connectors on that switch.

Are you using the "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille to check things out?
