There are known issues with the lens on this camera, but it's also only a $100 digital camera. Most of the time if you call customer support they will replace it without question; in my case, after much complaining and moaning they even agreed to do it outside of the warranty. It is a design flaw, they DO KNOW it's an issue, and talking to sales people at stores I believe they get a lot of them back.

So my lense on my canon camera was open when I dropped it and not it wont close Everything else works like I can see my pictures and all but I cant take pictures because it says lense error restart camera...

I'm afraid no words can solve this problem. If the lens is stuck in one position, or some gears are broke, the only thing that helps is a repair. But before you bring in the camera, contact a Canon certified repair centre and ask what it will cost to repair a camera after you dropped it. The repair could easy cost more than a new camera with better specs, so consider buying a new one too.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Lens are stuck out. screen says "lens error"

There could be two things causing this problem.

1- some dirt somehow got on the outside of side of the lense. So the lense could not fully retract or open out. As a result you can not take any picture. If the lense comes out even a little bit, try to pull it out NOT too hard a few times. If it does not retract, turn the camera off and push the lense in (up and down) NOT too hard for a few times. If the camera opened up 100% or retracted 100%, your camera should be back to normal. Make sure to clean the outside of the lense when fully open and keep it clean always. If this did not help, read 2.

2- If you dropped the camera, some mechanical part of the lense is broken or dislocated or the cable may have come loose. In this case you need to take out the lense from the camera and inspect it for broken pieces or loose cable. clean the outside of the lense and push the lense in and out a few times. Put the lense back on the camera and your camera would be back to normal.

Good luck!!!!!!

Canon A620, I can review pictures taken, func set and menu, but I can't see what the lense sees.

Are you able to take pictures with the shutter button, and do the pictures come out OK? If so then it's likely that you accidentally pressed the DISP button on the back of your camera. Press it once more to turn your display back on.

But if the pictures are also coming out black like the display, then the problem is more serious, and is likely a stuck shutter (this cannot be repaired by the average person). This would require professional repair. Call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange repair.

My camera's display is black when I try to take a picture, and all the pictures I take are all black. How do I fix this problem?

Your digital signal processor is bad or your lense shutter is stuck on the inside. A stuck lense can be fixed by replacing the lense barrel. Check out Camera Shy Anna on Ebay stores. They can fix your digital camera.

Camera lense/power

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Lense Cover Stuck

Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and be aware this will void your warranty):
