Plug the Flash Drive into a USB Port on your computer or laptop, and access the drive from My Computer if you are not prompted to open anything by a pop up menu (depends on your operating system, XP, Vista, OS10, etc.). In My Computer click on the drive letter which indicates removable drive or storage device. Once opened, highlight the files that you wish to remove and either copy them to your computer or delete them. If you mouse over the drive in My Computer or right click on it and go to properties, it will tell you how much free space you have on the flash drive. Please rate this appropriately and give some feedback. I hope this helps and good luck.

You just remove the first one and slip in the new one
if the system doesn't recognise it which is not likely

My book premium edition ii and windows vista

I am running 4 WD SATA drive internally on Vista Ultimate, and no problem. I have a simpletech USB 360gb external drive that I had not used after the VISTA install. After reading your problem, I hooked it up and turned it on, and it worked just fine. However, the computer forums are FULL of folks complaining about the My Book drives. WD site shows extra drivers for Win98 (as expected) and nothing for VISTA (would not think you would need one)

I would disconnect the MY BOOK. Get the PC running on its internal drives. Remove any MY BOOK drivers (they are likely for Win98). Reboot the PC. Connect the MY BOOK drive to a usb port and turn it on. If it doesn't come up as an external drive, I would think there was something wrong with it and contact Western Digital. You SHOULD NOT require VISTA drivers for any USB device. My warranty experience with WD has always been outstanding. Hope this helps

Can't get file to open off old hard drive

Vista runs NTFS...if your old XP-based machine was not, try converting to it (you'll probably need to put back in the old machine to do it)...I don't think that's the problem though as my older XP-based computer was running NTFS & my Vista-based machine keeps dinging & asking to try USB 2.0...It is USB 2.0,I then tried the setup disk and it says I have to remove the current 2.0 driver already in the Vista (I don't think so!)...I'm thinking that a Vista driver (from whatever sourse) will be needed,,,lacking that I'll return mine to Best Buy and try another brand that supports Vista.

Hi,

Vista has been known to have multiple USB issues. You can try:
1. remove/uninstall USB instances/drivers in your Device Manager and reinstall but use the USB drivers at the Compaq website for your PC;
2. Update/Patch your Vista US

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Can't access my lacie external hard drive

I would first plug it in to a different PC, this will tell you if the problem is the Lacie or Windows Vista.
if it works on a different PC then remove it from Device manager or go to the Lacie website for Vista updates.

If it does not work on a different PC then there are 3 possibilities
1. the drive got cleared data lost
2. the enclosure is bad (I would bet on this)
3. the drive is bad

purchase a USB enclosure, remove the drive and install it in the new enclosure plug in and test.

Hope this helps
