I have a 2004 Alero Oldsmobile if I buy the chipped ignition does it reprogram itself for the anti-theft device

Chipped ignition ? Key's on your car do not have transponder chip . Replacing Keys
The ignition lock cylinder and keys do not contain any coded electronic components. The lock cylinder housing contains the coded electronic components. Changing an ignition lock cylinder or replacing a key is a purely mechanical process which does not affect the vehicle theft deterrent system. To replace an existing key, simply cut a new key to match the existing one. If no keys are available, the lock cylinder must be changed. To change the lock cylinder, simply replace the existing lock cylinder with one of the same type.

The ignition key in 2002 Toyota Sequoia won't turn. Do I need a new lock cylinder or should I try other things first?

This is caused by the accumulation of metal shavings in the ignition switch cylinder from year's of internal wear. The cylinder can be removed and cleaned, oftentimes resolving the sticking issue. It requires some removal of panels and dismantling of components, which can be intimidating if inexperienced. A dealer will definitely only put in a new unit, as no one cleans parts anymore. Check YouTube under 'cleaning of ignition switches/cylinders' and you'll see a step by step procedure for the process. This can help you decide whether you want to tackle the job yourself.

Key wont turn in ignition

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you are using the right key. Chances are that you need to replace the lock cylinder. Keep in mind that your vehicle may have an electronic ignition setup where there is a computer chip in your key that the vehicle recognizes. Only certain keys will have this chip. Also, if you replace the lock cylinder you may have to have the system reprogrammed.

Remove the ring antenna around the barrel, put the old good chip key in the ring (...) start with the other key the car.The immo will read the regular key but the new barrel will work with the new key.Need reprograming the keys or switch the boards/chips in the key.

A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors. 4- Passlock Ignition lock
cylinder removed.
Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start

92 cadillac saville wont start, due to theft system.

The ignition lock cylinder has a set of contacts that "reads" the resistance in the chip thats in the key. The lock cylinder has a very small wire that commonly breaks causing your same problem. The fix is to replace the ignition lock cylinder but you will have to have it keyed to fit your existing key or get a key made that fits the new lock cylinder but has the same resistance as your current key.

You need to replace the ign. lock cylinder not the switch. You will need to get a new chip key to fit the lock cyl..

Cadillac seville won't start

I've got an even cheaper and easier solution, instead of buying a new cylinder, find that plug and snip the orange wires going to the old cylinder. Then remove the resistor chip from the key and solder each of the the wires to each side. this will fool the car into thinking the correct resistor chip is in place, allowing you to use the original key or any copies with or without resistor chips. i just did this to my caddy and it roared to life! :)

My 1991 cadillac seville will not start

Get a new cylinder put old key with chip in it. Find orange wire from old lock cylinder at bottom of steering column just under dash. Disconnect and connect new wire from new lock cyl. Get a copy of the old key for the old lock cylinder {no chip needed} to start car. Hide or mount new lock cylinder hidden under dash. Remove chip key to activate theft system.
