Question about PC Laptops

HP Pavillion not reading audio CD

My pavillion dv9335nr laptop is not reading audio CDs. When I insert a standard music CD (I've tried with 5 different CDs), it just spins around and makes a lot of noise but does not seem to automatically play the CD. This problem seems to be specific to CDs because when a DVD is played, it seems to work just fine. I am using Windows Vista as my operating system. Please help.

Can you boot the laptop with a cdrom? If you can it might be a drive issue with vista.

It is possible that this is a drive issue, I've seen drives that one of the optical reader device has gone out, but generally it'e the DVD reader and will only read CD's. It's very rare that the CD reader goes and the DVD reader works. Before you replace drive, if it's only music CD's (you didn't mention program CD's), then update your media player. If it still won't play, then unistall the media player and completely reload it. At this point you can replacse the drive.

One more thing, if you have access to an external CD drive, try playing music through it. This will tell you if it's the media player or the drive. I realize that everyone doesn't have access to an external and there's no sense in buying one just for a diagnostics check.

Does your laptop have a CD/DVD drive? If it does and you can't watch the DVD you might not have DVD player software. You can download free dvd player from the web.

cd/dvd rom is probably not working ,try using a lense cleaner disc if that doesn't work it's cheap enough to just install a new drive DVD/Rw as they are about £20.00 new.

I can play dvd and cds in my ble ray but i cant play blueray cd its a hp pavillion notebook

you're notebook is not blue-ray compatible, most likely. You're laptop, dv2000t PC, was made when blue-ray was not manufactured yet. OR, maybe you can try a blue-ray running player software; try searching for it on google.

I am stumpted. I am not sure. normally if a drive cannot read a disk and all of the software and drivers are correct then I would say that the drive head is out of alignment . Pasify me if you will and restore you computer to the time before you stared havign the problem just to insure that it is not software. If it reads DVD's it shoud also read cd's.?

HP Pavillion dv6121tx 15.4" notebook problem with DVD

Hi

It sounds like a hardware fault on the drive itself. The laser and focussing mechanisms are different for CDs and DVDs. The fact that the drive can read DVDs fine suggests that the laser and lenses can no longer focus correctly to deal with CDs.

Replacement of the drive would be the only fix, although you might find it a lot easier to buy an external USB DVD drive.

Hp pavillion dv6835nr dvd player

Try this, put a DVD movie in the drive, then open windows explorer (Right click the start button, click explore) then see if you can read the DVD files on the DVD.

If you cannot browse the DVD then the DVD optics of the drive have failed and you will need to replace the drive.
