HAVE A COBRA 29 LTD. MY SIGNAL IS WEAK WHEN I KEY UP AND I CAN"T RECEIVE A GOOD SIGNAL FROM OTHER CB RADIOS. DO I NEED TO HAVE IT PEAKED AND TUNE?

vr1 "s" 9 setting on the tx meter vr2 voltage setting vr3 squelch vr4 amc vr5 p4 display on tx signal meter.

The 29 has a built in SWR meter--check the match to make sure it is below 2 (lower the better).

The radio can be peaked for better than factory audio.

If the squelch is up too high you will not hear people below a certain signal level---in your case set it so you hear who you want to and not jokers.

RF gain lowers signal the radio sees for receive.

The stock mic will work but make your voice somewhat flat sounding---a power mic or having the mod limiter removed will make the radio and your voice louder.

when you had it modded there may be a cold solder joint. So when you tap it, it starts working

I have you had the radio peaked? If so this could cause that problem there is a can in the back of the radio that can turn it off. But if you haven't then get your SWR checked.

Has the radio been peaked and tuned? If so they should have adjust that, sometimes taht will cause this problem but if it hasn't get your SWR checked.

If you're using the RFX-75 amp section. Then you'll need to make sure your transmiter section is tuned for full output. The last last unit I installed in a Cobra 29 LTD, the radio modulated right at 100 watts output.

check with another microphone. they have to work for the rx ground pin to make it receive.

You got your radio peaked? Most likely, however, the pot for the antenna warning indicator is VR6. I always check that after peaking a radio.

Sounds like the PLL circuit....... no channel synthesizer will kill the transmit and receive...... bad crystal or IC could be at fault or if someone has attempted to add more channels could also be cause.

Strange problem indeed, this is why I don't like Cobra radios, they're no good. But try adjusting the receive gain on the radio, if that doesn't work, you might need to check the antenna, check if it is connected properly, or if the antenna actually works. Honestly though, if you want a solid performance radio, go Galaxy or Uniden, no Cobra. I worked with radios for years, and Cobra has failed to meet my expectations for a good radio, they may have a lot of features, but they have no reliability.
