Put water inside the camera?

A tiny splash from a ray (as in from the ocean) in the Corpus Christi Texas State Aquarium,... ruined my sd1000. I reached down to pet a ray in the petting tank at this aquarium, and the darn thing splashed me, and my camera, which was hanging around my neck by a long strap, and was on and shutter open, got a small amount, less than a half a teaspoon, of water, probably salt water, splashed into the shutter. The lense would not retract, the lcd started showing white flashing lines. I took the battery out and tried to dry off the small amount of moisture from the camera lense area (a couple of drops). The next day, I tried the battery again and it started making loud popping sounds - afraid that it might explode, I took the battery out real quick. So it obviously short circuited. It is less than a year old, but canon said that liquid damage was excluded from the warranty. Should I try to get this fixed elsewhere or just sell for parts on ebay?

My Canon Powershot SD1000 has a fully charged battery but won't turn on at all.

Does your camera turn on when it's in playback mode? I have a similiar problem with mine. It only turns on in playback mode.

Card locked

Have you tried looking at the memory card? Sometimes there is a switch on the card itself that slides up and down to lock, or unlock the card for usage. Hope this helps! (It should be white, and a semi-translucent plastic.)

Water damage - worth repair?

These are electronic devices, and have NO tolerance for moisture inside. The popping sound you heard tells the story. I suspect that you have lost this unit.
