Question about Dell Inspiron 300M Notebook
Downloaded windows package from website. shortly thereafter, when i tried to boot up computer, received message that a problem was detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer. when i try to power up, it provides me with option to boot up in safe mode, but doesn't allow me to do so when that option is chosen.
Windows update corrupted your boot sector on youre hard drive, one way of fixing this is by booting from the restore cd you got from dell choose R once the load completes,at the prompt type help this will display the a list of commands you may use.Type fixboot hit enter
it will write a new boot sector for you, type exit and hit enter the computer will restart (of course remove the cd),now if this persist go back under the repair option and type fixmbr hit enter this will write a new master boot, type exit oncemore it will restart. Now if you cant boot to windows after this you may want to get the data off the hard drive as you will have to do a fresh install.
