No. That type of a/c electric motor has nt start windings and ned the extra current to start it. The varable speed device would work after starting it on full power but you woudl hav eto remember to do this each and every time, that you started it, or run the risk of burning up the motor. In addition , the air flow may not be enough to keep the motor cool enough, at lower speeds.
follow this steps and fix it. God bless you f the fan doesn't work at all, make sure power is on at the outlet, then test the power cord . Test the motor and replace it if it is faulty. Clean and test the speed-control switch and service it if it is faulty .
If the fan works on only some speeds, clean and test the speed-control switch .
If an oscillating fan doesn't move from side to side, check the
clutch knob, then the gear assembly. If the gear assembly is faulty, you
can service it (see below).
If the fan blades turn slowly, check the blades for a loose hub and
tighten if needed. If the fan shaft is noisy or dry, lubricate it.
Hello .. you should be able to find a replacement for your fan control at any building supply store, a home depot type store. Look or ask for a variable speed fan control. This is slightly different from a normal liight dimmer . You might also look for a replacement knob before replacing the whole switch, or matbe getting a replacement just to replace the knob ..
i have been having that same exact problem with my 2002 grand prix for over a year now, and when my ac is on the lower setting the it doesnt work plus the headlights and lights on my dash go out. On Max everything works. i changed the blower resistor(about $35), still doesnt work. i changed all relays and fuses related to the ac, still doesnt work. i changed out the actual ac control switch in the dash, still doesnt work. i have changed everything but the blower motor and have asked every mechanic and auto parts retailer i come across and no one knows the answer. The best answer i got is that it is probably a wiring problem like a short somewhere.
Sounds like the fan control knob has shorted out. You can check the fan "blower" relay and fuse in the engine compartment but you need to make sure the control knob is good or you will keep blowing fuses and relays. If your blower fuse and relay are good, then just have the control knob checked and replaced if needed.
