If you start any application which uses webcam, it should be activated automatically.
For example, use your yahoo messenger / yahoo messenger / the camera application that came along with the computer. First time you have to choose the camera / imaging device, once done from the next time onwards the application will directly open the camera.

Most laptops from major manufacturers (HP, Compaq, Sony, Asus, Acer, Dell, Samsung, etc) that come with web cameras will usually have software to control them.
The cameras are off by default unless a program is accessing them. You can use programs like Skype or video / picture capture software or the webcam control software to access the images. You can also use websites like youtube (you need an account, but select upload video, then live web cam) to test the camera.
The web cam software can be found by searching for "cam" usually, but is often in the folder of the manufacturer's name in the start menu. This will have about all the controls there really is for the web camera. Most just come with some novelty filters to change colors or add "artistic" effects to the video / pictures.

I dont know how to turn on my built in webcam

go to device manager and check is driver loaded for web cam device.
go to scanners/camera icon in contrl panel and click on that
click on camera icon i u can see any live streem then web cam will be working
if not
restall web cam driver software and test as above

All you can do is go here > http://www.zebronics.net/driverdownloads.asp and download all the drivers and try each one.... The ones to suit your OS.

Lost the web cam installing CD

As long as you know the company of the web cam - which may be written on the camera or the power adapter - you should be able to go to the company's web site. From there, you can usually identify your camera from a picture on the site.
