SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Memory Card

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Canon SD1300 memory card locked

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. But, if you've checked the slide switch, the internal switch in the card slot may be jammed by a grain of sand or gunk. Here are troubleshooting steps for this problem. My camera suddenly had the message "card locked!".

If this camera uses SD cards then what may be happening is that the little lever that drops into the slot on the side of the card to indicate locked or unlocked is jammed in the locked position. If you shine a flashlight in you might be able to see where the pin is.

This error message means that the card is corrupted or formatted for another digital camera. Turn off the camera. Insert a new card or format the card.
Try to format the memmory card using a card reader and the PC this should solve your problem if not you have to replace the memmory card.

Memory card error with new memory card

Hi there, welcome to FixYa.

Let's work on the camera first.
1) Turn the camera off and remove the battery and the card.
2) Put the battery back in without the card and turn it on.
3) Turn the camera off and insert the CF card.
4) Turn the camera back on again.
See if that takes the message away.

If it doesn't leave me a comment and we go to step 2.
If it does, thanks for coming to FixYa.
