    was there any WPA warning/messages?
Did you delete any file/s or folder/s in the Documents and Settings??
can you restore it from the recycle bin?
u should try to logged in windows under Administrator via Safe Mode (F8 before XP loading), then run the system restore or create a new user profile and delete your old user (your name) profile..or try to reinstalling your OS..

Try reformatting your computer 'coz maybe your operating system is corrupted. If your afraid to lose your files, use different hard disk to install your new Operating System, then after installation,, copy all the files from the old hard disk to your new one by connecting it both to your computer and selecting your new OS in boot menu to start.

Laptop will work fine until you turn it off. Repeat to power back up.

You nearly got it.....
Take the harddrive back out and format it on your tower, make sure it,s the right format, then place the harddrive back into the laptop and then install windows from your laptop..
Because if you install windows from your tower, your motherboard from your tower install the componants it needs to run from the windows disc, therefore it won,t run on your laptop because it,s a different motherboard...

Hope this helps...if it does please take the time to rate it,as i,ve taken the time the answer you..

Given all the steps you've tried thus far, it may just save you time and frustration to just wipe the machine and start over. Given you can get into safe mode you might be able to copy any of your important files off to a usb thumb drive or usb hard disk before you wipe it.

If the laptop still has problems on a fresh install of windows, then its time to call in warranty repair.

STUCK ON START PAGE,CAN'T GET TO DESKTOP

Most likely a Windows software problem. Could be virus caused. Try restarting the laptop and immediately start tapping the f8 key until you see a screen with several boot options.Use the arrow key to select "boot using last known good configuration". If that works, you're done. If not, try restarting the laptop and immediately start tapping the f8 key until you see a screen with several boot options. This time select "boot in safe mode". The laptop screen will look different but will still allow you to run your laptop. Click on the "Start" button, then "Help and Support" and then "Undo changes to your system using system restore". Click on "Restore" and then select a date shown in BOLD when your laptop was running fine. Have the laptop restore to that date. After restarting, you should have full functionality. If this doesn't work, you may have a failing harddrive. Try reinstalling Windows. If it fails during loading, your harddrive is most like failing and should be replaced. If reloading solves the problem, you had corrupt software probably caused by a virus attack.

Cpu heat

Overheating is a common problem with laptops, and usually a bit of preventative maintenance is all it takes to keep it alive. The bearings on those fans are pretty durable, however dust (and especially pet hair) can build up and slow it down. The motor may still be good, its just that the fan blades are stuck.

Blow some air in the vent OPPOSITE the direction of normal air flow (In most cases it sucks from the bottom and blows out the back/side) and if you see dust bunnies, your doing good. Be THROUGH! Especially if you smoke in your house, this causes the dust to become brown and sticky. = )
Good Luck!

Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue
