Friend of mine upgraded my laptop from XP to Vista. He suggested we upgrade the Bios as well. After running bios update laptop is dead. Switches on black screen with three beeps ( one long, two short) even though the cd light flashes and the other lights work. What to do????

Check BIOS if all RAM is being picked and or set to max on RAM settings.
Upgrading BIOS! If it isn't broken don't fix it. Upgrading is a scapegoat fix, and many manufactures have a disclaimer. "You are on you own, and the likes for a reason. Most solutions are found elsewhere.

PS. Many applications are written for 32 bit, hence they are unable to fully utilize 64 bit and may be bound to 4GB.
Download the BIOS upgrade and device drivers from the Acer WEB site. Makesure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require thatmatches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. BIOS upgrades are USUALLY done in DOS. Most times, you need to boot from a floppy or CD that is specific for BIOS upgrade. Some BIOS upgrade software may be apllied through Windows, but this depends on your computer manufacturer.
BTW, if your computer is running ok, DO NOT MESS UP WITH THE BIOS. You may risk ruining your laptop.

hi there There is 2 ways to do this, firstly you can create a floppy disk with the updated bios flash file on ( not recommended to a novice ) or reinstall XP and updated the bios by downloading it from the manufacturers website and installing it that way. After that you can install Vista.
Hi, Go to the following link, download the BIOS file and save it on the desktop.If you are running windows vista. Right click on the file and left click on Run as adminstartor. Points to remmber : 1. Disconnect all external devices from the laptop 2. Both AC adpater(power cord) and battery should be in the system 3. The system would automatically shutdown and restart the system. Donnot press button during this stage.
