Question about Televison & Video

Broad vertical bar appears on TV screen

A broad vertical coloured bar appears near the centre of the screen after about 30 mins. The bar width is about a sixth of the screen. Sometimes it disappears later then will reappear. The colours in the bar change all the time. We have had a TV engineer to try to solve this but even when he took it away to study it he couldn't solve the problem. We wondered if it was due to overheating but we have discounted this.

You should send the set to the factory service rep, and not an independent TV service. They will need to have the boards to test the set. The independent service tech would have to buy the boards to test, and he would not have the factory setup to properly diagnose the set.

Your set is definately serviceable if the service tech is properly trained for your model type, and has the proper tools and spare parts to troubleshoot the set.

This fault can be in the main screen video processor board, or the address processor area, or the backplane processing area. Depending on the model, there can be a number of boards to cover these areas.

Once the defective board is determined, it can be swapped for a new one, and the factory level setups as required just have to be performed. The set should then be working properly.

Be prepaired that this type of service may be expensive. Some of these boards can cost a number of hundreds of dollars. They are not supported to be serviced at the component level.

There is a problem with your t-con board it is the one that transfer image and get the signal from the logic board if this is faulty or not receiving signal to logic board it will produce gray and white screen try to check the 5volts dc supply and the 12volts supply if you are familiar with the electronic components and have proper equipment you can do it by your self but if not you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress because this problem must be done in actual testing of the unit to check the real source of the trouble. How do I align screen using Vista? I have a broad black band near the center of the screen that I can't move.

Connect a different monitor. If that BLACK-BAR goes away, then try the monitor on a different computer. If the BLACK-BAR is present on both computers, then the monitor is the problem.

There is a permanent broad coloured stripe down the centre of the screen - how to get rid of it?

LCD display may have moisture on tinoxide which can be burned off in low humidity room. LCD tft may be leaky, which can be burned in by standby for a few weeks. Video output semiconductor IC may be needed burn in for a week. Most of these problems are due to moisture in the air, and lack of use of the TV. Have power on 24/7 may solve the moisture problem.

Westinghouse LCD TV - broad vertical green and blue lines

try to go to the factory reset and see if that helps. If not, you can then check your connection. if you use component (red, green and blue for video and red and white for audio), make sure all the color matches when you plug it in. if everything have been checked then you need to replace the main board and it should correct the problem.
