My acer laptop screen smashed i set it allup to tele worked great got virus on it so bad had to restore to factory settings now i cant do anything but look at a blank screen is there anyway of setting my laptop up again without its screen or can i use another laptop or a tv

Have you any anti virus installed on your laptop ??

doing a factory restore is a bit drastic if having a virus is the only problem

there are several free anti virus programs on the net that you can download
that is if your laptop is still usable

free avg is quite a good one just be careful and read each stage of install so that you don't install some of the stuff that they wanna give you along with the free avg


If you still wanna do a system restore back to factory settings
make sure you save any files or pics that you don't want to loose on a spare hard drive or pen drive
or even burn them to disk
that is given the fact that your laptop is still working

DID you do any back up disks when you first had the laptop this would be useful if you did

Some acer's have a recovery partition
i think its some where like

acer erecovery manager
restore or recover something like that
click on it
follow the on screen instructions
windows will restart and hopefully do the recover

but i would try to remove the virus before a system recovery

To do a clean Windows install, put in the Windows CD and press any key to boot from CD on start up then follow the prompts to install Windows. Right before choosing where to install it, opt to format the drive so that you have a clean install.

To restore it to factory settings, if you have the CD(s) that came with the laptop, put it in and boot up and press the F key associated to system restore that shows up at the bottom of the screen.

Hold alt f10 while it is restarting. This should get you into options to restore To factory. Just hope these viruses did not get into the restore partition. Good Luck.

you should be able to hit the ALT+F10 button when u first boot to do a boot up factory restore

If you have a Factory Restore CD from Acer, you can boot the laptop with that in the drive, and it will start you on the process of restoring it to the factory configuration.
