Question about Proscan Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a proscan ps57660 rear projection tv, and the picture tube keeps jumping. its like the colors won't line up. every so often it will hold, but that is only when there is a full moon and martians have landed on the white house lawn!!! last time i checked, the tv repair guy said i needed 3 seperate picture "tubes" and they would run me about $300.00 a piece, which is almost the cost of the TV when purchased new. any suggestions?????

thanks!!! i had a feeling that the $1200.00 we paid would eventually go right down the tube, literally. you know i have a mitsubishi 27 inch and its about 10 years older than the proscan , and i gotta tell you, the set works great, no problems, even remote works better than proscan. what was proscan/rca thinking when they made these tv's??? what a bunch of suckers we all were for buying them!!!! looks like sony and mitsubishi will be getting my money from now on!!! at least they have good warantees!!!!

TV repair guy is right. There are three separate tubes inside your tv (red, blue and green) that are set up to project perfectly on top of each other so that their pictures line up exactly. These tv's have shorter lives do to the fact that they are using the same technology as a conventional tv but they have seriously cranked the power up on these things. They run hotter and harder than any other tv out there. I recomend thinking fondly of the happy days that you had with this tv, then giving it a proper burial and upgrading to HD.

Unfortunately, it was just a matter of the fact that it was the best and most economical technology available to accomplish that task at that time. Lots of other companies, including Sony and Mitsubishi used the same technology. Like many things in the tech world, it came, it was improved upon, and it passed.

I was just given this t.v because friends couldn't figure out what is wrong with itl. The colors don't line up right, looks kinda blurry depending on the lighting of the program being watched. How do i fix...

According to the manual:
1) go to the "TV Main Menu"
2) Select "Screen"
3) Select Adjust Projection TV (obviously only if a projection TV).
This then allows you to adjust the TV's 3-colors. Selecting GREEN CENTERING brings up a control panel that lets you center the green projection tube on the screen. Selecting RED CONVERGENCE or BLUE CONVERGENCE lets you align the Red & Blue projector tubes. Centre the green projector tube 1st. Then adjust the red & blue until the test pattern on the TV screen appers white.
Good Luck!

Green horizontal lines on screen no picture

The green CRT's (color picutre tube or color wheel, or ballast) will need to be tested for replacement.
It is quite common with these tv's

You will need an ohmmeter and or voltmeter and test each component for currency and accuracy
