    When i press the "graph" button, it says "error: invalid dim"

    it always says ERR:INVALID DIN what i want to know is how to fix it because i tryed resetting it and changing the batteries and it always says that. I looked at the back of the calculator and it sayed in very fine print that the calculator must accept any interferences that may cause undesired operation

Look at the Y= screen. If If Plot 1, or more, is On (dark) along the top, you have to turn it off. Select STAT PLOT, (2nd Y=), then 4, (Plots Off), then Enter. Your screen should say Plots Off Done. Graph should now work.

You're probably trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.

So on my graphing calculator i put my equation x^3-x^2-10x-8. then i hit graph and it says err:invalid DIM.

To turn the stat plots off, press 2nd then stat plot, and then select 4:PlotsOff. By the way it is easy to graphing function y=x^3-x^2-10x-8.

As you can see this function have zero values in the points -2, -1 and 4

Go to http://education.ti.com/downloads/guidebooks/graphing/84p/TI84Plus_guidebook_EN.pdf to download the manual. On page 401, you will find the following:
INVALID DIM • The ERR:INVALID DIM error message may occur if you are trying to graph a function that does not involve the stat plot features. The error can be corrected by turning off the stat plots. To turn the stat plots off, press y , and then select 4:PlotsOff. • You specified a list dimension as something other than an integer between 1 and 999. • You specified a matrix dimension as something other than an integer between 1 and 99. • You attempted to invert a matrix that is not square.

Getting ERR: INVALID DIM when pressing the Graph button


If the message appears when you try to graph functions deactivate the statistical plots. To do so:

Press [2nd][Y=] to access (STAT PLOTs)
Select [4:PlotsOff] then [ENTER]

That should solve your problem. Post a comment to this thread if you still have trouble graphing.If the message appears in another context, it sure would help knowing the context of the error.
