Locked out of the menue ,Need to reset command mode

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!

The following should give you access to a service menu containing controls for macro-vision and region coding. You can change the regional settings from there.

1. Set your player to Standby
2. Press Title, Clear and Power

Change VCR settings from SP to LP or EP

Hi;
I have a Panasonic VCR with a different, but I know how to 'fix' your problem on my m/c. The remote for my m/c has a "REC MODE" button; operating that button changes from SP to EP etc. Check it with the "Program" button on your TV screen.

Copy recorded pgms off DVD HDD to DVD+RW

the manual specifies that if you select for recording the FR mode the machine automatically adjusts the recording mode for the program to fit on a 4.7G dvd. If you use a dvd DL if will auto detect that you have this type of dvd and the FR mode will automatically allow you to make full use of the available space. Depending on the space needed on the dvd the picture quality will be good to excellent (refer in the manual to Recording Modes..)

Only records 1.5hrs of FM radio.

mine usually needs me to stop it at the point I want to end it. that probably doesn't help you any, but see if you can work from there.

Recording from the hard drive

you have to choos the sp mode which is over 2 hours in recording. i noticed that after you set it in sp mode and you press the record button on the recorder panel more than once, the recording time changes.

Using FRec to record on DVD-which mode does it record in?

You seem to have fixed your own problem. Yes, the Flexible recording function only works on scheduled recordings. However, you should be able to do direct recording with FR - but when you press the F.Rec button for a direct recording a notification should come up on-screen asking you the amount of time to record. This is on page 16 in the manual. If you started the recording without being on the correct input for the DVD recorder on the TV, you would not have seen this message and the unit would default to EP 6 or 8hr. (based on settings).
Obviously the FR swaps between bit-rates to fill the disc completely, so you would see the recording tracks had almost completely filled the disc when done.
Also, some older DVD players, even if the disc type is compatible and finalized, do not read VBR recorded DVDs - so that my be another issue.
Hope this helps.

you have to finalize the disc first.once it is finalized you can not record any more material on it,so make sure you record everything you want on a disc. you can maximize disc space by changing speeds on the dvd recorder. for example: if you have 5 hrs of stuff on a tape, set the dvd recorder for 6 hrs or more recording time.the quality should be ok [depends on how good of quality you want] if you set the speed for 2 hrs, your quality would be better, but obviously everything won't fit.
hope this helps
