Check the supply fuses first . There is a non- resettable thermal fuse but the dryer will not start if it is gone. There is also a non -resettable thermostat on the upper side of the heater housing.

My maxidry 457 was running then suddenly stopped,,,,,it was heating well at the time

It may be heating up too much and automatically shutting itself off. Try cleaning out the exhaust tube and even open up the dryer and clean the exhaust from the drum out. a strong shop vac and a stiff brush helps. Cleaning out excess lint that coats the exhaust walls restricts the dryer from pushing out the hot air and heat builds up. Your temp sensor is likely reading this and safely shutting down the dryer. Good Luck

My 1993 Maytag Clothes Dryer heats up, turns but does not dry the clothes unless I place an absorbent towel in with the items. It sweats water from the bottom of the dryer. What is going on?

To dry clothes, we need 2 things:
1-heat to evaporate the water from the clothing
2- adequate air flow to exhaust the moist air, thereby drying them.

Your heat seems to work.....if you stop the dryer mid-cycle, the clothes should be hot.

It sounds to me like you have a lack of air flow through the dryer. If you can get to the exhaust vent grill outside, then see if you get a large volume of air coming out of it. If not, then look for the louvers stuck closed on your outside grill, or any kind of blockage in your ductwork.

Perhaps undo the vent at the back of the dryer TEMPORARILY

I have a Whiripool model LE4930XK electric clothes dryer in a rental condo. The lint exhaust was stopped up, and the dryer would shut off after 20 minutes. After cleaning the lint exhaust, it shut off...

Greetings,
did your clean the motor itself,...this is what usually cuts off and stays off until it cools down.if the safety or thermal switch went out..it would not come back on...so, this is how you clean motor.,unplug the machine, raise top and there are two screws in inside each corner. remove and make sure quick disconnect wires are seperated, making sure you know how to re-install them. remove front of dryer and , remove belt off of dryer and pull tub out...the motor is now easy to clean and get to. just use a vacuum and a brush to get all the lint off of it...if this does not help/ or its not dirty then the motor is most likely defective.

Dryer operates but will not heat up

Do this first
Clean the entire exhaust venting tubes
The lint build up will cause the moister sensor to shut down the heat until its is entirely cleaned out. If cleaned and still no heat the sensor is bad

It shuts off before the cloths are dry

Most likely either the lint trap needs to be cleaned out, the exhaust piping needs cleaning or you have faulty heat sensor / circuit breaker.

Be sure to clean the lint trap before every load may even try cleaning it out half way through the cycle too.

Good luck.

Whirlpool dryer won't dry

If your dryer spins and heats properly and the clothes don't dry, then very simply put, the moist air is not being taken away. If your drying temp is adequate, then the problem is with the exhaust. Go to where the air is being exhausted outside your home, if working properly, when you put your hand on the air coming out, it should get damp very quickly. And ALWAYS clean the lint trap after every load!!!!

Gas dryer heats fine but shuts down before the drying cycle is over taking longer to dry clothes. Lint trap and exhaust tube cleaned out.

You are going to most likely need a vent cleaning. The dryer is getting too hot and shutting off because it is not exhausting good.
