Space/firmware upgrade issues

My rca opal mp3 (8 gb space/2.54 is full so far) player recently said that it was full and needed at least 50 mb space to operate, but it was nowhere near full. so i went on here and it said to update my firmware. so i tried to do that and got maybe 12% of the upgrade done when it said "error occured, unable to write firmware data"or something close to that and now my mp3 player no longer turns on at all and when i try to update it it still says unable to write firmware data. it wont even show up on my computer anymore as a device! please help me and tell me what i should do!!!

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

SOURCE: firmware upgrade not working

Are you absolutely sure that you loaded the firmware for your correct model #? Try downloading the auto-updater software and see if it will take the upgrade on the next go around.

If not, that player is fried - update during firmware upgrade is no good. Call rCA to see if you are still in warranty.

Usually the "50MB of space needed to operate error" is easy to fix, but also most other manufacturers have a specific FAQ on their website that tells you how to fix it. RCA did not have anything like that for this model. also, most other manf. have a recovery tool of some kind - absent on this model.

Opal mp3 1g

Sorry I don't know where the "Profiling requires 4mg of free space" came from. But one thing I do know is that one GB of space should hold up to approx 600-650 songs unless they are WAV files then they take up 30 megabytes per song.

Hope this helps

Make sure the Hold Button - it's on the side of the Opal - is off.  When the hold button is on, it makes the Opal think the Flash disk is full, and you get all kinds of wacky reactions.
Hope this helps...
