Normally there is the ac97 sound driver.
You can find the driver for it on line. re-install the driver from realtek and normally that should solve your problem

Hello! please go to this website: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/vostro-200

Here is a link to reinstall the correct bios firmware http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/vostro-200?DriverId=R199863&FileId=2731123001&urlProductCode=False

Then choose the correct OS from the drop down and reinstall your sound card drivers. let me know how that goes!

Tip

Why is there no sound coming from my speakers?

If you hear no sound coming from your speakers, there could be several reasons:
1) Check to see if the speakers are powered on.
2) Check to see if the cable is plugged into the speakers and the green jack in the back of the computer.
3) Check to see if the speakers are muted in Windows. Do this by clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray. It has a place to check to mute the speakers.
4) Check to see if the sound devices and drivers are loaded. To do this go to the control panel and click on "sound." Then click on the sound tab. Choose one of the Windows events that has a sound associated with it and preview the sound by clicking on the arrow to the right of the listing. If the arrow is dark and when you click on it the sound seems to be playing, then the drivers and sound card should be functional. If the arrow is grayed out, then your sound drivers are not installed. In either case, try reinstalling the sound drivers.
5) If you've tried all this to no avail, try with another set of speakers.
6) One thing that may work is to do a system restore back to the time the speakers were working.
7) If nothing works, I would suspect that you have a bad sound card. Unfortunately, these days sound is integrated into the motherboard, but you could install an add-on sound card.
ok if you are on xp great if not you can still get there.
control panel
look for a speaker icon open it

If his fails you may want to put in an external sound card (from ebay about 10 pounds.7 dollars)

There is no sound coming from my speakers and they work what can be wrong with my pc i took it to the computer doctor and when he put it on it did work for him am confused and i have tried every thing help...

First make sure your speakers are plugged in correctly, powered up, and turned on. I'm guilty of not looking for the obvious myself. Anyway, after that, make sure the sound is not muted on your computer. Next check to make sure your sound drivers are installed and that your sound card is enabled in the device manager.

Did you try your speakers on a different system or did you try a different set of speakers on your computer?

One thing that does cause alot of problems with sound are viruses, adware, spyware, malware, etc.

Good luck!

Sound problem

FIRSTLY MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SOUND CARD IS WORKING PROPERLY BY CHECKING IN THE HARDWARE SECTION ON MY COMPUTER. LATER MAKE SURE THAT THE SPEAKERS ARE CONNECTED AND WORKING. IF STILL THERE IS A PROBLEM CHECK THE VOLUME OF THE SPEAKERS IN THE COMPUTER IF IT'S ENABLED.
