HELP!!! Model: AKAI PT50DL14X/SMS We just bought this used TV, get it home and SURPRISE! It doesn't work!We we try to turn it on and the LAMP light on the front just flashesfor maybe 30 seconds, then the STANDBY/TIMER light flashes for a bit.You can hear it trying to click on, and it sounds like something insideis spinning. We've tried unplugging it, leaving it off for awhile thentrying again but it always does the same thing. We're just hopingsomeone on here can help before we take it to the shop (Hopefully, wewon't have to!). We've also tried the hair dryer trick that you suggested and that didn't work.

I think i have the solution to your problem,
I think that the lamp has gone out in your tv. You should try changing it out. I work with many tv's with DLP's and it almost always is the lamp. YOu can order it online, there is a slot on the side of the tv were you can change it out through there, the lamp should have a number on it. And its pretty simple to do. So there you go..and I could have gotten you a better deal on your Tv.

THE END

Well, there could be any number of possible suspects..the power circuit, a bust capacitor, problems with the amp, etc. Unfortunately, I cannot say for sure what the problem could be without doing a manual inspection first. I would recommend taking it to a local repair shop to figure out the problem first. If the cost of repairs is too much, better chuck it and go in for a new unit..

Linda .....no its not the lamp thats causing the whirring/buzzing sound but the colour wheel, its housed in the light engine you will need to replace the whole light engine cos the inbuilt colour wheel is worn out this causes the buzz hence the lamp may not light up or u may have shut downs flickers on the pix or color issues

Check for bad connections on your yoke plugs. Each pic tube has its own yoke and will go to the main pc board, It will be a 4 wire plug w red, blue, etc. Two for vertical two for horizontal.

I need a lamp for Akai Model PT50DL24X/sms Lamp Code BP96-01472A (P132W) I need to find this lamp can you help? Akai does not answer e-mails & the phone is blocked ,Thanks

The bp96-01472 tells me the set was made by Samsung---lamp should be easy to find=============GOOGLE that number with the word lamp after it and you will find many places that sell it.

Two ways here, buy a generic "bulb", take the cartridge with the bulb apart etc, these generic lamps cost less but are no bargain as they usually have a shorter life span.

Get a lamp with the cartridge (bulb and housing) and your task will be easy.

Samsung bought the Akai name some years ago, all products with that name are Samsung.

When changing the lamp do not touch the glass face with your hands as any oil will cause the lamp to fail very quickly.

If you have any questions post a comment here and I will reply, the site will email me.

Akai DLP projection TV. Picture is fine except lamp is not illuminating a 3-4in area on the left side of the screen. You can see the picture over there but it is dimly lit. I can't seem to find a way to...

The problem is the light tunnel is collapsing. This is a VERY common issue with the Samsung/Akai DLP TV's. It is four mirrors used to transfer the light after it passes the color wheel to the DMD board. When part of it collapses the grey bar that you are seeing is the end result. This is a part that usually requires a technician to replace as there is a little tear down of the light engine itself and you would be handling delicate parts. The part number for the tunnel assembly is BP96-01961A and I have included a link so you can purchase it through the Samsung website. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks..
