PHILLIPS MAGNAVOX 60 BIG SCREEN 9P6040C101

CONVERGENCE BOARD MISSING, HAVE PICTURE BUT SWAYED AT TOP OF SCREEN, IMAGES ARE DOUBLED (SHADOWED EFFECT) TOLD I NEED NEW CONVERGENCE BOARD AND THEN CONVERGENCE HAS TO BE SET. I have a philips projection tv and it is bowed on the top and bottom of the screen. The colors also don't line up. I was told it was a convergence board or could be a "pin cushion problem" I would like to save a lil money and replace the boards myself, but am unsure of the exact problem

I have a philip magnavox 60" screen. My problems is when you turn the TV on there is a oral circle with a blue color on the left side of the oval and a red color on the right side of the oval circle. When the TV get warmed up it goes back to a full screen. Could someone tell me what is my problem and how can I fix it and where can I get parts to fix it. My model # is 9p6040c101. Thanks Robert

Can you post a picture of your screen or send it to my email slinteriors@yahoo.com as it sounds like its just the convergence Ics and the 6.8 ohm resistors, but a pic would help me do a accurate diagfnosis.

60" Phillips Magnavox

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when we doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

Convergence problems with model#9P6040C101!

They are large black colored IC's with the markings of STK392-xxx (xxx could be 110,120,150) There could be open resistors as well and you have to make sure if you do replace the IC's that you apply heat sink compond to the back of them otherwise they will prematurely fail.
