Step 1: A memory slot is a slot in your motherboard where you place your RAM (Random Access Memory) card. In layman's terms, the RAM is the "temporary memory" that the computer utilizes whenever it is turned on. If the computer cannot detect a RAM card installed in one of your memory slots, you have to troubleshoot the problem immediately. Ensure that the problem is with the RAM slot and not the memory card. Turn off the computer, unplug all devices connected into the ports of your computer and open the computer casing. Refer to the manual of the computer to know the specific steps to follow in opening the computer casing. Remove the memory card from the RAM slot. To do this, unlock the card using both hands. Pull the card away from the slot to remove. Inspect the RAM card for any apparent physical damages. Wipe the card with a clean cloth to remove dust. Also wipe the memory slot in your motherboard. Place the RAM card back into the memory slot. Press the card into the slot until it clicks into place. Close the computer casing, connect the cables back into their respective slots and turn on the computer. Turn on the computer and see if the memory is detected. If the computer does not boot up, the RAM card is not detected by the computer. Assuming that you have two memory cards installed in the computer and the computer boots up, check if the second memory card is detected by the computer. Click "Start," right-click "Computer" and then "Properties." Under "System," check the amount of "Installed Memory (RAM)." If the RAM is not detected, the RAM slot or the RAM card itself may be malfunctioning. Place the RAM card into another memory slot in your motherboard and see if the card is detected. If it is detected, the other memory slot is malfunctioning. Do not install any RAM card into it to avoid further damage. If it is not detected, the RAM card may be malfunctioning. 1) All of your memory must be compatible with your motherboard (DDR, DDR2, or DDR3 and speed and latency). For best results, if you have dual channel capability, each pair of memory sticks should be matched. (Usually consecutive serial numbers indicate pairs from a given manufacturer.) Both sets of memory should be rated at the same speed (or the slowest speed will be your memory speed). Some motherboards may not work with all 4 slots occupied unless the memory was certified to work as a set of 4.
2) Which motherboard do you have? The motherboard manufacturer and memory companies often will have lists of compatible memory. The motherboard manufacturer will also have information on the dual-channel pairing.
My current and previous motherboards have had memory slots in color pairs (blue, black). For my boards, I put the sticks in the blue slots (A2 and B2) first. (Preferably these should be the largest memory capacity.) Then I put the second pair of memory into the black slots (A1 and B1). DIMM slot A1 is closest to the CPU; B2 is the farthest away from the CPU.
Depending on your CPU cooler, you may need to remove it or modify it to use all 4 DIMM slots.
Observe the appropriate steps to avoid static discharges while handling your memory and when inside your computer. For actually inserting the memory, make sure that the locks (white on my motherboards) are fully open (hinged away from the slot). Line up your memory so that the slot in the memory is on top of the key in the slot and the memory is centered in the slot. It will only line up one way; the wrong memory type will not line up. Push your memory stick down fully until the locking clips rotate up and fully engage the memory. (You may need to push down at multiple places to get it fully seated.) You will then repeat the procedure with the rest of the memory.
Note: if you get a memory error, three beeps (on many boards), you will need to remove the memory and test one stick at a time in the A2 slot (for example). Then test pairs of slots. It is not unknown for either one stick to be bad or one slot to be bad. Look at the total memory your OS identifies, if you manage to boot in spite of any issues. Running Memtest may be needed but even that may not identify which specific memory segment is bad.

Cindy Wells (who has installed or replaced memory since giving an 286 computer a full megabyte of memory. DIMMs are a lot harder to mess up as long as you have the correct memory. Note: most of the different DIMM types have different number of pins; thus sometimes it's very easy to tell that the wrong memory is being used. This isn't always the case.)
Try swapping the memory in the two slots. It sounds like either one of the memory chips is bad or one of the memory slots is bad. If you find that one of the slots is bad, then you might try just putting a 1GB Chip in the slot that works.
This note book has one RAM installed under the keypad and at the back is the expansion slot(DIMM) for adding additional memory. So the slot u see on opening the RAM cover(Part 35 in the manual). I am quoting directly from their manual, page 50: The notebook has no SDRAM built into its motherboard, but has two slots for PC133 SDRAM modules: a system SDRAM slot beneath the keyboard (containing an SDRAM module installed at the factory), and an expansion slot on the bottom of the unit. you may have installed memory that may not be compatible with your motherboard
do you know what type of mother board you have..
your memory must match in this categories
1. type (ddr, ddr2, sdram, simm, rimm)
2. speed (measured in mhz or sometimes given as a pcXXXX number)
3. cas number.
4. whether is ECC, parity, buffered, registered, non ecc
5. check your motherboard documentation to find exactly in what slot your new memory stick should go and which one should go first and which one should go second (ex. if you have dimm slots and you have 4 slots (2 pairs of different color) you may need to install one memory sticks like this: memory - empty - memory -empty
if one of the items that should be matched does not correspond your computer could work but it will work at the slower speed (ex. memory 1 (slow) + memory 2 (faster) = speed of memory 1
note: don't confuse memory capacity (1g, 512mb) with speed (333mhz, pc2700)... the best thing to do is to check the documentation of *********** board or even take the memory stick that you originally have and have the store looking for the memory that you need...
just insert in the black coloured slot while insering see the cuts below the ram should coincide with the black coloured memory slots thats it just keep correctly on the slot and press it the white locks will lock at the end of the slot at both the side
Note wile putting insert from the end of the slots tht is u have gap at the end of the slot the RAM should go there properly
the problem may be that your new memory is not compatable with the current memory and board, the easiest way is to remove your memory and just install the new memory and try all slots, if you get no boot then you know the memory is not compatable.
