what would be the best way of going about telling a repair guy what is exactly wrong with it I heard the flyback, or power mods, or even the whole mainboard from different posts but if this problem is just a faulty power converter or flyback I would rather go the cheapest route possible to have it repaired if you could help me on how to go about that I would highly appreciate it!!!

Try resoldering the flyback transformers connections on the board. Its very common for the flyback pins to develope cracks around the pins which can cause that issue. I would check that first with that model.

hi

i agree with you about the fire hazard and i had many feedbacks about this tv, mostly conscious about fire hazard too.

i would suggest that in light of owning a high-def tv, it would be significantly appropriate to place this in a room with airconditioning as to diminish the heat this hdtv produces.

about the issue of the hdtv turning off, if you suspect the transformer and other parts to be the reason for the tv to malfunction, why not bring it to a certified service center which handles GE hdtv. i would say that it may be a pain but as to think of the outcome, it may be worth it.

hope this helps.

Sparks and burning plastic

Leave the back off and try to power the set on...be ready to pull the plug. Whatever is sparking/smoking is your bad part. On this TV I would suspect the flyback transformer or grey rectangular polyester capacitor mounted in front of a heatsink on the left.

T.V. turns self off

This is a common problem. May people have been noticing in the back of the television large sparks and flames are being thrown. The unit then detects overheating and turns itself off. Please report this problem to the consumer product safety commision. I beleieve this common problem with large sparks and flames warrants a recall.
