ihave the same problem but altering the speed to x4 did not solve the problem. stopped on 49% again. tried it on x2.4 and burnt a very small clip, but when I tried several in one go, it again stopped and failed at 49%. This solution is NOT a solution i'm afraid.

I tried everything from deinstalling codecs to alter burning speeds!

My solution to this problem is:

It is essential to
DEACTIVATE the ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION
for the time, the dvd will start to burn.
I use Kasperky Antivirus 8.0.

I had the same problem tonight. My camera is the DCR-DVD610. When I bought my camera in February I made sure I could burn DVDs on my laptop and it worked no problem. This really irritated me. After many attempts I thought about plugging my camera in to my laptop and opening the PMB program and try again. I only did one video to see if it worked AND IT DID! I didn't change any settings. Hope it works for you!

Well it worked that one time. I tried to copy the other videos to another disk and got the same error. I've wasted to many disks trying to fix this. Seems to be a known problem-you'd think Sony would address this somehow.

I tried again today. I went and bought DVD-RW disks (was using DVD R before. The only thing I did differently was I disconnected my internet connection and shut off my antivirus. Everything I wanted to transfer to dvd did. I think it's hit/miss with settings on the computer.

SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.
