This page applys to XP,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891985

but the solution should be similar. If you've done the registering, the next suspect would be something corrupt in your VPN package.

Try a fresh download or copy of it, and be sure you run as administrator during the install.

When installing Java, at the end the message ''Error 1721. There is a problem with this windows Installer package''. A program required for this install to complete could not run. I've tried everything....

Try the steps laid out in this MS KB article about the installer service:

Reboot the computer, after it beeps start pushing F8. You should get a menu. Select Safe Mode and push enter.

Once Windows comes up click start and type in CMD (for Vista/7). Right-click cmd.exe and select "Run As Administrator". (For XP: click start then Run. Put in CMD and click OK).
Put in
msiexec /unregister

Then bring up the Run box again and put in
msiexec /register
Close the CMD box and reboot the PC, letting it boot as normal. Try the Java install process again. If it still doesn't work try the SFC command listed in the above KB article (which I can help with).

Cisco VPN Client for 32 bit vista

Download the latest version of the Cisco VPN Client. My version is 5.0.03.0530.

You can also try using the Microsoft "MSIZap" utility to ensure a clean uninstall. It is a command-line utility. You will need the original MSI install file from the Cisco VPN client to use MSIZap.

You can download it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370523.aspx

Error 1721

Try the following regardless of the software as this is the common error message provided by Microsoft. Of course this won't rule out either a corrupt installer or incompatibility's
  1. Disable/Configure any anti-spyware or anti-virus software on your system during installation process. For example: Spybot Search and Destroy Program or Norton Anti-Virus
  2. Check to see if any spyware or adware is installed on your system blocking the completion of install process.
  3. Check to see if you find any unwanted entry in Add/Remove Programs or Internet Explorer - Add/On's section (Tools - Internet Options - Programs -> Manage Add On's). If you found one, remove/disable this entry.
  4. On Windows Vista, disable UAC (User Access Control) feature for your account

I'm not sure if Vodafone is compatible with Vista. I thought it was only compatible with OS's up to XP. I'm not 100% sure though, maybe you just need a driver of some sort.
