CAN I USE THIS ROUTER WITH A MODOM INTERNET CONNECTION ?

You shouldnt have any issues connecting your router to the home modem, simply connect the ethernet cord into the internet port of the router. It is a plug and play device meaning once it's plugged in you should be online.

It ses to fix the mtu seting on the modome

does it says insufficient MTU settings??
if it does you are using a router in order for you to fix this you must call your ISP (internet service provider) or your router manufacturer minimum require is 1364 and maximum is 1500 what i suggest do it by 10's for example:
1364-1374
1374-1384 and so on

Very slow

Since your laptop is wireless, G speed is only a maximum of 54 Mbps. N speed is usally 300Mbps.
Now your desktop, if its connected directly to your router with an ethernet cable, its speed can be 10/100/1000 depending on the routers network ports.
You could try to update the firmware of your router from the manufacturer's website.
