How to Reset Parameter RAM (PRAM) - Macs

Resetting Parameter RAM (PRAM)

PRAM stores certain system and device settings in a location that Mac OS X can access quickly. Exactly which settings are stored in the computer's PRAM varies depending on the type of computer as well as the types of devices and drives connected. To reset PRAM:

1. If computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shut Down from Apple menu.

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in Step 4. Note: If keyboard does not have an Option key, use Alt key instead.

3. Press power button.

4. Immediately press and hold Command-Option-P-R keys.
Important: You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

5.Hold down keys until computer restarts, and you hear startup chime a second time.

6.Release keys.

Hi, I purchase a Mac Air when they first came out and have 4 GB Ram and 64 GB Flash SSD HD. I would like to know whether I can purchase the 256 GB Flash SSD and upgrade my harddrive capacity.

It should work as long as the SSD is physically the same size so it will fit in the mac. Before buying the SSD I would check with a local computer repair shop as to whether the mac os can handle that certain SSD. I think it should work fine.

I was browsing on the net then the colorful circle appear and just started spinning and will not let me do anything. wont even let me turn the computer off. what is this????

Power down. Take your RAM out and re-insert firmly. Nothing? Take your RAM out and look at it to make sure you got the right type of RAM for your Mac. Nothing? Buy new upgraded max RAM. Recommended brands are OWC, Crucial, and Samsung. Get 2 GB of RAM to put in each slot and that should help you out with the colorful spinning wheel of death. The wheel shows up whenever the program your using does not have enough memory to allocate for the resources your using.

Also, you can take disc 1 of the 2 gray discs and go into disc utilities and do a repair permissions and then do a repair hard drive.

Choppy video and sluggish computer response

How much HD space do you have left? Most macs run best if you keep abou 10gb of HD space free. Furthermore, cut back on excessive app loads (bells and whistles. The ultimate solution is to back up your files and reinstall the mac os. If the problem persists it is possible that the CPU is starting to break down. This is replaceable at significant cost from mac repair shop. Maximizing RAM helps some, but age of the equipment will reduce performance.

MacBook Pro 15'' RAM Problems

The earliest MacBook (Pro) models have a limit of 2 GB. To check the specific model, in the Apple menu select about this Mac. Then press more info... . Look at the line like "Model Identifier: MacBook5,2" for my white early 2009 MacBook. If the numbers are 1,1 then for sure you have the oldest model and are memory limited to 2 GB, as the sum of both cards.
That's just like my wife's, it was a Core Duo and not the current Core 2 Duo. Works fine. I was ready to up its memory but read about this in the Apple Support Forum. It came originally with 1 stick of 512 MB, IIRC. I upgraded it to 2x1 GB for a lot more than the 2x2 GB in the newer. BTW some of the Macs between these only take 3 GB but will work with 2x2 GB just throwing 1 GB away. -Ken

My windows Xp on mac wont run

Hi there,

Try getting the latest version of bootcamp again, and making sure you create the driver cd it asks you to create during the install.

This part is critical as it installs the software needed for your keyboard and mouse to be recognised by windows xp.

Hope this help.

Nathan.
