Unfortunately, the only way to do this is replace the screen. I've found that Ebay is the place for parts for these. I bought a complete machine with a bad motherboard for parts for $28 including shipping.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Blue screen when boots up how do i restore computer to factory settings

Hello:

Start your Latitude and maybe a blue bar will appear at the top of the screen like: www.dell.com. Inmediately you see this, try to press F11 to begin the restore utility. Or simply keep pressing this key just after you switch on the laptop.

I hope this helps. Thanks

Screen goes dull at times

The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.

Have a problem

There's no easy way around this type of password. If you can't remember it, you will have to reformat the drive and install a new operating system.

Big problem

You need to listen to your C400 as it boots for further hints as to wether your problem is hardware or software.

At power on a number of events occur, then if the POST (power on self test) completes you get a single beep. If you are getting more than one beep it is important to note how many.

This will aid in figuring out what hardware is involved.

After POST your system starts operating system input.

If you get to the point that it starts to load your OS then if you get a succesful load I would go back and figure out when did the problem start, (Have you loaded new software) if so you might have a restore point you can go back to.

( To access the System Retsore Wizard, click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.)

If you fail before the operating system loading screen then consider you might have loose memory chips (you did say it was a laptop and could have be jostled) Loose memory might affect the first 64 MB of Ram used for the load instructions.

If you get the blue screen after you OS loads you might want to reload your OS, but I would do Scan disk / Defrag First in that order. Scan disk will identify bad hard drive sectors and attempt repair. Defrag will consolidate your software. These two should be run monthly especially if you delete any files regularly.
