Question about Akai Televison & Video

1 Answer

Where can Akai TV repair parts be obtained? Our regular sources gave us a telephone number for Akai which refers you to another number which has nothing to do with repair parts. Thank you, Darryl Television City Santa Barbara, CA auditron@juno.com

Somebody gave me a akai pt 5250ax tv and said it needed a new board,do you know where i can get this part?

First you have to know exactly what board have to be replaced. Akai was using Samsung electronics inside of their TV sets for some years. You have to find Samsung part number on the board. Should start with two letters like "BN" or "BP".
After that you can research vancebaldwin.com (log in as a guest) or E-Bay for this perticular part number.
Good luck!

Akai Television - With no repair man in site!

I worked for Akai tech support when it was still available over the phone. Now, they only have a website. The reason no one wants to repair the set is they have no idea how to obtain parts. During the end of their production run, Akai had a lot of problems with availability of replacement parts. Parts for the repair of your set are likely available from the company that distributed the TVs here in the U.S., however, the total cost of repair will cost you nearly or more than a new LCD. There is a circuirt board inside your TV that needs to be replaced. The cost of the part with labor added will bring the billl to at least $300. At walmart.com they have a 42" Viore selling for $578. They have a 32" Viore with DVD attached for $398, and a 32" 1080p for $349. There are other brands and selections for higher prices and other Viores as well, but I think you get the point. Do you want to spend a few hundred dollars repairing a TV that is out of warranty when the same amount of money will practically put you into a new set? If you decide you want to repair the one you have anyway, please post a comment with the model of the TV you have and I will help you obtain the part needed to complete the repair.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please post a comment if you need additional assistance so that I can help you further.

Akai 4290 power board

Yes, I'm sure the board is bad. I had the TV checked out by a local TV repair shop. I also opened the thing up to see if I could do anything with it and it's obvious that this is the board that has bitten the dust. The correct number for the board is AA98-00188A. I made a typo in the first post.

My Akai TV not powering up(CTVCT29FS)

Most likely your convergence board is bad. If you have any electronic repair experience, you should be able to locate the convergence driver board. There will be two large black IC's mounted to a metal plate and they will start with the letters STK. Disconnect this board and if the set starts up, it is bad. There should be a number on the board. This will be a Samsung Number. Go to Samsungparts.com and enter the part number into the right box and see if it is still available. If it is not, you could always go to ptscorp.com, get their telephone number and call them about rebuilding your board. Good Luck!

WOn't turn On

I talked to an Akai certified tech who told me the problem is a bad convergence module. The part alone is $400. Fortunately, I purchased mine from Costco 3 years ago. Costco has a 100% guarantee policy that I was not aware of. I called them asking if I had an extended warrenty and they gave me the full purchase price as a refund ! If any Costco purchasers are experiencing this problem and you purchased the TV prior to March 2007 (when Costco changed their policy), you may be able to take it back and get the full amount you paid for it. I turned around and purchased a new, larger Panasonic for under $150 more. It has a 5 year warrenty.

The Akai service number (to reach a certified repair place) is 1-800-726-4405. The Akai people are very good and can direct you to options. For those near Pittsburgh PA, Contact Rosewood Audio in New Castle 724 654-3023.

From Google, I found this:

http://sony.semenedis.com/oemsearch/Viewproducts.php?make=HITACHI&model=DVRV8500E&description=

Part number is TS19425

You might contact Hitachi and reference that part number and see which distributors sell them. You might check MCM Electronics as they sell VCR/TV parts.
