The Epson printer may only use genuine ink cartridges which contain a chip so that you cannot fill the cartridge with ink or use non genuine ink cartridges.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.
You do not say which operating system you are using.
do not say if you are using original Epson branded or compatible generic brand
do not say if the printer is new and if this is your first cardtridge change,
the cartidges that come with the printer are low volume, starter cartridges.
The 2 types of cartridges have slightly different codes to distinguish them.
people prefer generic brand, compatible cartridges, which are generally cheaper
but can be of inferior quality and some can contain inferior quality ink.
Others prefer original Epson branded cartridges, which can be more expensive.
Epson printers can take both economy volume and high volume cartridges.
In Windows operating systems, generally:
Start > (Control Panel) > Printer(s) > right click on Epson
PX700W icon > Printing Preferences > Maintenance > Ink Cartridge
Replacement > follow on screen instructions > head cleaning >print
Print a document > Print Dialog Box > click "How To..." >
Maintenance > Ink Cartridge Replacement > follow on screen
instructions> head cleaning >print test page.

theres your first problem, restrain from using non original/genuine inks because it might lead to a more serious error in the future, one solutions you could do is to check the nozzle of the yellow ink, it is the pear shaped just where you insert the ink cartridges, check for clogs, there are about 4 to 6 holes, all of them should be clog free. try also cleaning the copper terminals, it is where the copper terminals of the cartridges meet, clean it with a cotton cloth, try NOT to touch them, specially with an oily hand. it is where the signals from the printer relays to the cartridge when to spray ink.
Most likely the printer has been sitting for along time not used or you have used cheap replacement ink. Epsons are notorious for clogging the jets with cheap ink. unfortunately replacing the ink cartridges will not help because the jets are seperate from them. If cleaning numerous times does not work your next best bet is to buy a cleaning ink cartridge for your model. otherwise youll need a new printhead or new printer. If your going to use cheap replacement cartridges stay away from epson.
If you are not using Epson ink, your printer will do this. Epson printers hate knock-off ink. Always use Epson ink if you want to keep your printer working properly. To solve the problem you are having, try cleaning the ink tubes. Make sure you re-install them properly. Hope this helps. Charlene
hello, I hav Epson Stylus Dx4050, there is black ink,but the colours finished and it stopped printing, so please if you could tell me if the 4 colours must be there to print or what can I do?
Thanks very much
Im sorry to inform but yes, Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.
