Handbrake doesn't hold/work on my 2003VY Holden Commodore

Sounds like the cable is broken. Pull the hand brake on as hard as you can and hold it on then try to move your car, if the car moves easily you have nothing to hold the pads onto the rear discs. Cheap fix for local mechanic.

My handbrake needs adjusting in my Toyota Corolla 1994. Can u please explain how this adjustment is done.

Hello, My usual Brands are Ford products, but Foreign cars usually use simple, less expensive ways to do things. Assuming the brake pads are good, there should be a cable connected to the handbrake. You would usually pull the handbrake up to engage about 1/4 the way to engagement and lock it there.
Then you would go underneath the car and find the cable that stretches from the handbrake lever to a juction with a second cable. There should be an adjusting thread somewhere at this intersection.

With the rear wheels off the ground, you would tighten the nut on the threads of the handbrake cable until you hear rubbing in the rear brakes. Then get inside the car and pull back on the handbrake lever and you should not be able to move the rear wheels with the handbrake set. You then release the handbrake 100% and the rear wheels should turn mostly without noise.

Now if you can not find an adjustment nut under the car, it is possible the handbrake adjustment nut is under the handbrake cover/boot inside the car. Still use the same process of setting the lever 1/4 engaged and tightening the threaded cable until the rear wheels start dragging.

I hope this helps you.

Adjust back brakes. how do i do it

have to write a wordpad document on this ,right firstly i have never seen a malibu except on american TV ,now its a car so i will tell you how to do a opel astra which should be much the same ,jack and block rear wheels then remove the wheels now their might be a countersunk screw that holds the drum on if so undo it with a impact driver ,if no screw then undo the bearing .pull the drum off if it wont come slacken the handbrake adjuster right off if still will not come off the put the wheel back on in reverse and place a plank on the back and wack with a 14lb hammer ,if it still will not move use a puller which will break the holding pins and strip the shoes so the whole lot will need replacing .right now you have it off the reason its tight is because the drum has worn leaving a lip on the edge of the drum ,use a small angle grinder and rub it down ,now the adjuster can vary on the type some have a screw type wheel and some use a wedge that drops so determine what type, then make sure the handbrake lever is right back now if one side is and the other isnt then its a new cable as its seized ,now assuming all is correct then adjust the shoes out a click or two at a time and then if the shoes are still not rubbing adjust some more till their is a slight resistance and a scuffing noise ,after both sides are right and refitted then adjust handbrake till you have 3 clicks ,check both wheels turn and remove the jacks and you should a hard brake pedal with little movement and the handbrake should lock the back wheels at 30 mph .easy to do when you have plenty of practise

Handbrake light comes on but fluid level is topped up

When you engage the handbrake the handbrake light should come on. It has nothing to do with the fluid level.
If it is coming on without the handbrake being applied, then you possibly have:
1. A faulty switch. The switch activates the handbrake light.
2. A stuck braking cable. To eliminate this place the handbrake on and attempt to back-up (reverse). It should not move with your foot off the brake. Do not put your foot on the gas (accelerator). Place your foot on the brake and disengage the the handbrake. Again with your feet neither on the gas or brake. The vehicle should move backwards.
In all likleyhood the switch is bad. It is easily located right under the handbrake arm and easily removed and replaced.

Hand Brake

At the bottom of the backplate is a rubber plug, pull it out
and inside is a tiny wheel you can turn with flat screwdriver or similar. Its down on both sides to move the handbrake shoes out to get a better handbrake.

Handbrake warnjng light comes on when driving

The switch that detects when the handbrake is pulled is either loose and jiggling around or the handbrake cable is loose and allowing it to move enough to hit that switch. That's not safe, you need to have it looked at.

Golf MK4 Handbrake blocking

Seems like your rear brakes are staying stuck in locked position when you release the E-brake. Try to adjust the e-brake from under the car first. If that does not work then remove the rear drum, and there is a adjustment bolts. Turn it a few turns put back on the drum and try again.

Headlight

This is normal operation. The XL-7 has daytime running lights and automatic headlight controls. You can keep headlights off when starting by applying the handbrake. If / when the daylight sensor on the dash determines it is evening and turns on the headlights, they will come on regardless of the handbrake position; and obviously, if you want to move the car, you have to release the handbrake (and headlights come one).
