Question about Compaq Presario Notebook
My sister gave me an older laptop, Compaq Presario 1255. When I power up the laptop, I receive a blue box with the following in it with a space following it to enter a password, "Enter Password". She had never seen this before and has no idea what password to use. When I try her password, I get system locked message. Can you help?
If there is a cancel button with the password prompt, hit cancel without entering a password, or hit enter without entering a password. Sometimes if there was a password, even though there may not be a password currently, the system will still prompt for one, if you enter a password then it locks. The other things you can try is: At start up, hit the F8 key and go into safe mode, log on under the administrator and clear any user passwords in the user accounts. You can also try, at start up, entering the bios or utility set up and check to see if the bios password setting is enabled, then disable it. Rarely, but on occasion, a hard drive will fail and cause the password prompt. If this is the case, then the hard drive will need to be replaced.
