i turn it on, the fan powers up, the two lights on the front turn on, when only one turns on normally, then it powers down. then it powers up again the keyboard lights up the monitor light turns on but nothing on screen then it beebs 3 times, 1 short beep then two long one,s,then it will not turn off . so i have to unplug it from the back. Then when i plug the power back in it then it does the above again.

Strange that the old memory no longer works. Make sure that you are seating it properly and securely.

You can try discharging the motherboard by unplugging the power cord and holding in the power button for up to 60 seconds.

Clear CMOS/ Remove battery for 10 minutes, reinstall battery & wait for another 10 minutes before turn on. Three Beeps means RAM is defective/ not detected.

    Hello,

Try with new RAM. Check your motherboard's documentation for compatible RAM. May be the slot accumulated a lot of dust. Try with different slot also.

Installed new memory. will not restart, rear

That could be a couple of different issues.
  • Memory may not be seated all the way. It should "snap" into place.
  • Make sure it's right kind of memory. The Dell Dimension 3000 takes 333MHz DDR SDRAM. Look on the chips to see if it says 333 or PC3200 anywhere.
  • The max memory for that machine is 1GB, so my guess is each memory card is probably 512MB max. Larger ones may not work
  • It's possible the memory is bad, replace it as last resort if nothing else fixes it.
Let me know if none of the above works.

Cant Start Up

Hi
start with removing the added ram try starting up, if it doesn\t start up does it beep?

if noting happens remove all the ram, the computer should definitely beep now.
Add only the original memory and try starting up you should get picture.

This seems to be a old problem and if you don\t need assistance in solving it. It would be great if you would share to the world how you fixed your problem so other users can benefit from your experience.

Thank you, Ekse

SAMSUNG 1GB RAM 400MHZ PC3200

RAM has to be

Four 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

Supports PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory module is 1 GB

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB
It has to be the same.

• If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed.
Or
• If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets
